I just bought a boat and had it delivered from Ct. The boat was winterized and I would like to take it out this weekend. Can someone let me know exactly what i need to check and what i need to do?
The boat is a 2006 SAN 220 if it makes a difference.
Apologies in advance if it is a repost x 100000000000000000000000 |

Arrrgh you! It's November and already you're dewinterizing your boat.
From my understanding, it should be good to go. Just make sure it's full of gas and there's nothing wrong with the battery. Check the oil and pay attention to the temperature and it's pretty much ready to roll. _________________

If the engine block was layed-up dry, make sure the drain plugs are installed. If the block was layed-up with anti-freeze, drain it and dispose of it properly -- you don't want to pump that into the lake/river/etc. when you start the engine. It's an environmentally unfriendly product and my guess is, most places would give you a citation if you get caught. More importantly -- it's just wrong.
Enjoy your new boat! |

Jaybee, I would pull one of the spark plugs and inspect it just to make sure it isn't fowled in case they fogged the engine. Other than that, as long as the battery is in good shape you should be able to drop her in and go. Have fun with the new boat _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

It depends on the boat...and how THEY did it.
Some people just fog it and put a bunch of the RV stuff in the block...
Nautique dealer goes all out.
V-drive fluids
New -Oil
I need to put the plugs back in.
connect some water intake hoses.
Put a belt back on...
Then you will need to re-winterize or you will be Fd. _________________ PEACE

Dude I would definitely take a good look at the engine before you just toss it in the water and go. Like J_DOGG said, it depends on how it was winterized. I paid to have mine done at the dealership and they pull the spark plugs, fog the engine, flush it with antifreeze, take out the battery, drain the oil...I think that's it. It cost me $200, but that includes the de-winterization when they replace the spark plugs, oil and filters, etc.
So it might be worth taking the boat to a shop and having them dewinterize it. At least take a good look at it before you launch. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it would suck to drop the boat in the water only to find out you have no spark plugs or a battery... _________________ Whoever coined the term "Near Beer" was a very poor judge of distance... |

LOOK IT OVER GOOD
You sure don't want to sink your boat or burn up engin. _________________ In God We Trust

Can you call the person who winterized it and ask them? _________________ "This is looking really good" |

why not run it out of the water?? Put those little ear things on it (or whatever your boat uses) hook it up to your hose and look for leaks |

if it's winterized properly you should just be good to go.
Check so that the spark plugs are tightened if since they might have been removed to spray conservation/fog into the cylinders..
Other than that, the motor might be hard to get going as usual and would prolly produce more smoke than usual..
