Are these reliable in a boat? Or should i look at something that is approved for marine use? Our boat is not kept on the water either if that helps.

Thanks

Dave

Alpines work great in boats. As long as its in an enclosure that is not going to get water all over it. What kind of boat? I have a pioneer in my boat and its fine.

Check out the pictures... http://www.wakesiderides.com/rides/index.php?page=out&id=1562

Where can you get the enclosure at? We have a Tahoe Q5 it's just a runabout but it does the job for me. I am just looking at doing a sound system in the boat b/c there is no chance we could get a wakeboat.

um the stock enclosure where your head unit is now should be fine. Just make sure there is no place for water to drip in

I saw your boat in wakeside rides, that looks nice. Do you have any plans for ballast? We are thinking of throwing a fat sac in the ski locker over the summer. we are also probably getting a monster tower. It's only October and I am ready to ride right now.

This is absolutely fine, especially in freshwater. Saltwater use might lead to premature corrosion, but I would suspect you'd be ready for a new headunit or boat anyway when that happened.

We have ballast right now. We have a 560lb fat sack that goes right inbetween the seats. It does a good job of putting a few more inches on the wake. We usually have the fat sac in plus 4 people in the boat. Trim it up just right and the wake is ok for my level of boarding.

I love my monster tower. It works great and is super quiet. Was not hard to install at all. We had a big air pylon before and the tower is so much nice because of the added room in the boat.

wakeboarderdave1, I love the Alpine head units. I ran one in my last boat for 3 years without a problem. Provided you keep the water off of them you're going to be just fine. Typically the spot where it will be mounted will be sheltered enought to ensure if stays dry (In your dash, in your glove box, etc.)

I had one and it lasted for 8 years, until some JACKASS on a Sea DOO decided to be CUTE and spray the boat...... Besides that fact that they came extremely close to my skier that was down in the water and almost hit my MC, the stereo took a direct shot and it was no more..... I replaced it with another Alpine... It is in the factory cover that has a lid that will keep it mostly dry, unfortunately I had the lid open when this happened, but I doubt it would have helped that amount of water that we took in that time water was pouring out from under the dash for minutes.... But, after a long talk about how reckless they were luckily the only thing bad that happened was that we lost a head unit and no one was injured.....
