Looking to get a board, what size?

Hey, been wakeskating for about a year and wakeboard every now and then using a cheap board/bindings setup that a friend has. i'm going to put more interest into wakeboarding next summer.

i haven't wakeboarded near as much as i have skated but i'm learning at a very fast rate. i have i/o BS/FS 180s down. w2w FS 180(all TS). very close to i/o FS/BS 3's(miss the handle everytime) i've also got switch down.

since i've proved to myself i can do well enough on a cheap wal-mart based board(i ride finless if that matters) i don't think i need to go out a buy a $500 board. i'm not looking to go pro but progress and i think sooner or later this cheap board will hold me back.

size is something i'm not sure on. i love smaller boards like 134/135 due to the weight but i'm unsure if that will hold me back sooner or later when trying bigger tricks?

i'm 5'11''/183lbs.

i'm looking to purchase my first setup used from the classifieds. i don't know too much about pop/etc. in the wakeboarding world so please feel free to enlighten me.

what board/bindings do you think would suffice for me starting off? i'm not looking to spend a fortune on my first setup so please keep that in mind.

At 5'11" and 183lbs, you should be looking for something around a 140+. Other than that, it's completely up to you. With the different rocker setups, and shapes availible it's really hard to say what board will fit you best. The Substance is a great entry - advanced level board; the LF Omega is a good choice as well.

But in the end, you could buy a board that you think is the best for your style, then go out one weekend and ride your friends board and be convinced that your board blows chunks after a set on a new board.

Thus, demo - but a board longer than the 134 will be a very good choice for you and your knees.

The state is a great board for the beginer all the way up. It has been used on the national level also. Adam Errington won the mens juniors at the Nationals on the state. The 145 is for riders 165 and up.

i am 200 lbs atm and 5'10" but i plan to lose 15 more by summer . sizing by LF put me at a 133 fish . the length is shorter but its a wider board . i read some testimonials about it and a lot of ppl love it . i think it will work out fine .

You could go with the fish, or you could go with something a little longer. I'd suggest demoing boards, can you demo at your lake?

And it is really good. I took out the center fin and I only use the molded fins on the board. I got a pair of onset bindings for $89 and I was ready to try new tricks. I did upgrade from a Hydroslide freedom combo.
What a diference.
