wake skating is great. extremely easy to pick up also. once you get into it build a winch. anyway start with a 41" they are usually the best way to go to when learning. i've ridden LF impulses 41 and 43 wide, as well as hyperlite byerly, casette 43 flat deck, casette bi-level(same as the gatorboards one) and right now i've got a karma 111. personally i really liked the byerly but the wood deck of the impulse feels really nice and responsive. both great skates. get grip tape you'll like it alot better but it makes for some nice rash so be careful and wear shoes. the only reason i don't like the karma is that its huge and you have use a really wide stance on it. the weighted kick tails are sweet for shuvits but its just as easy on the other boards. the bi-levels break super easy don't waste ur money on them. i've heard kampus, integrity, and distortion have some sweet rides out there too. a trick to getting up without fumbling around holding the skate is just stand on it in the water with knees bent a little. as the boat idles forward gets the rope tight and is beginning to take off lean back a little so the board and ur feet come up in front of you some and you'll plane out just like you do on a wakeboard. hope that helps. have fun.

typeRider,

I rode my girlfriend's LF Melissa 41. It is TINY. Laughing

I'm 6'3" 230 lbs. I've got my eye on a Karma 111 for me. It would be my first wakeskate.

yeah i would totally recommend the karma for you HHI Dave. like i said its a kickass skate but you have to be a tall person to really get the full potential otherwise it just feels like a mini surfboard. i'm 6'1" 175 so it works for me as well. if you wanna see what i'm talking about with the weighted kicktails get in the water with it floating flat in front of you and give it a good spin watch ur head though. it'll spin around really fast. if you try a normal effort shuv 180 you'll do a 360 if you try a 360 shuv you'll do a 540 its nuts.

typeRider, do you have any idea what size would be good for me? I'm looking into getting a wakeskate, I'm 5'7" and 120 lbs.

probably a 41ish thats usually the best for anyone under 170 unless you are just crazy tall guy or something. for you i'd say the same thing i said in my original post. an impulse, byerly, the reed pro models are supposed to be sweet or even a distortion board. all distortions are 41-42 their whole line up is pretty sick.

feigl if you want a wakeskate then any of the ones listed above are great. you do not need bindings to ride one. just skate shoes. if you want a wakeboard anything bigger than 135 would probably be best for you and in that case yes you need bindings.

yeah johnboy1892 is right. just think of it this way for anyone that has further questions about sizing. the less you weigh the smaller the board. the more you weigh the bigger. i always reference 41's because i like them but a 39 would probably be best for someone who is under 150.

feigl, if you are wakeskating, no bindings. If you are wakeboarding, bindings. That's the primary difference between the two.
