New Video Emerges of Girls' Hazing Incident
Friday, May 09, 2003

NORTHBROOK, Ill. — Shocking new videotape of the now-infamous Illinois "powder puff" football hazing melee shows high school girls chugging beer straight from a keg and some teens pummeling schoolmates with their fists.

it is being blown way out of proportion thanks to the media. Yes i have know about this all week, but now its national news? For what, yes there was some bad things done, but this happens all over the place all the time, the media is making it alot bigger then it seems.

Dude, that's pretty hardcore. Forget how much the media is making out of it, fraternities & sororities get into a LOT of trouble for stuff like that, why should it be different for high school kids?

that doesn't happen in washington. that is the dumbest thing i have ever seen. i thought stuff like that only happened in Dazed and Confused. nothing fun about hazing no matter how you look at it.

That was ridiculous. It does seem that the media blew it out of proportion, but those seniors have a screw loose. I am not sure what is cool about what they were doing. When I played HS football we had something called "JV beat up day." When varsity would beat up the jv team, tape 'em up, etc. I guess it was similar in that it was hazing, but nobody got injured and everybody took it as fun and controlled themselves within normal limits. Plus everybody was in full pads and helmets. I am not sure what some kids are thinking these days. I mean I did my share of stupid things when I was young too, but not to the point of injuring others.

Yeah, that stuff is really stupid. What would drive someone to do something as stupid as that. Well, probably being drunk didnt help it either.

man, that is ridiculously unnecessary!

so this hazing is a supposed right of passage? an enterence fee to the "power puff" elite? puh-LEEZE... those girls should not only be convicted on criminal charges, but they should be forced to research genital mutilations (as "other" rights of passage)... maybe if they can see the inhumanity in that... they can apply and appreciate that to their own past actions.

take care all.

Whoa, i just actaully read the entire article for the first time, and that is even stupider than i thought. Being initiated into your senior year? Why anyone even go to that knowing what will happen to them. Those people werent the brightest to begin with.

Hey hey, not all people from Illinois are stupid. I'm from california, and one of my teachers was from illinois and she was really cool. But i do agree, some people there do need a major ass whooping.

I agree with Jester a frat or sorority would be put on probation to say the least if a tape like that was sent to the media. I think people in HS should be delt with more harshly. That is very retarded, seems like they are taking a step back in human rights up there.

I don't have a problem with the initiation part as long as it's not too horrible. These kids took it WAY too far. Pouring human feces on people? That's just sick and wrong. And initiation shouldn't include beating the crap out of people. It should just be a fun way to make the juniors endure something before they become the leaders of the school.

these people on this show that i was watching were pissing me off ssssooo much. i cant even begin to tell u how agrivating is it to hear some of the stuff that they're saying. listening to them come up with excuses of why girls are violent makes me want to get violent. i mean honestly, people who are 45/50 years old will not understand teen-agers. no matter how hard u try, you're NEVER going to figure us out - so just stop trying!!!!!

Believe it or not, hazing has been going on for LONG before you kids came around, you're just not that clever. Just 'cuz older people frown upon things that you do that doesn't mean they don't know what's going on. Most of the time they just don't want you to do the stupid things they saw or did.

I just read a report on this. Apparently the senior girls involved got suspended & are getting recommended for expulsion. There may also be criminal charges made. I think it's a good idea to be hard on these girls, but I hafta wonder if they'd be more lenient if not for all the national attention it's gotten. I'm sure the principal is trying to be a hardnose to try & redeem the school's rep. I'm all about stiff punishment, but I'm into 2nd chances too. I'm a little torn.

When I was a freshmen I got the crapped kicked out of me every day by the seniors on the football team. If you play any sports in high school you know what Im talking about. Hazing with sports, fraternity and the millitary is a common thing. It teaches you that you are the new kid on the block and you arent that special. It teaches you to buck up and be tough. Usually the same people that kick the crap out of you are the ones that befriend you and take up for you later. The reason this is such a big deals is that it was GIRLS. If this event involved boys you would have never heard about it.

15 stitches to the head, 1 broken ankle, and one person with hearing loss (not sure if it is temp or permanent). So for at least three girls, they had the crap beaten out of them.

I think this goes way beyond hazing or a rite of passage. This was down right criminal and I think the girls involved in the beatings should be charged with assault. (From everything I've hear, they probably will be charged soon).

I agree 6more. There is a right of passage haxing that most of us encountered. This went to far, and they should have to pay the consequences. I would press charges if it was my daughter that was involved.

The reporter last night stated that the "hazzing" powder puff football game has been going on for about a decade. He said that this was not the first time it had turned rough. The girls knew that the powder puff game was...they knew what it is about...but yet they still went anyway? I dont go into mosh pits because I know what happens there. If I did go in and get my arm broken...I would deserve it. The majority of fault lies with the small group that took the hazzing to far. However, Stupidity does have its consequences.

It still applies, adults are smarter than you think. When you get closer to your parents' age you'll probably understand them a lot better. When you're their age you'll probably act like them. Wait & see, it can be a frightening thing. Wink

The only difference in your life vs mine at your age is technology, a greater range of sports for females.
That's about all. The "younger generation" will always view the "older" folks as not understanding THEIR generation.

Times haven't changed, but the drugs have become much more potent, and there's a greater acceptance of excuse of why it's "OK" to be violent.
