|
|
I know rope length is a matter of preference,
but if I usually run at 65 and easily clear the wake, will going shorter make it easier to do the backroll?
I tried it and I seemed to rotate out of control really fast, no fun.
I'm looking for the easy looking "floaty" roll.
TIA |

i find that the longer the rope the more hangtime. i would say stick to 65. _________________ i love lamp. Crikey |

Shorter rope = more/easier pop and less distance to cover wake 2 wake.
From the sounds of it you are not doing the trick correctly, sounds like you are "throwing" it too much instead of edgeing through the wake.
If you aren't casing the wake on the way down, shortening the rope won't help you any with landing the trick. _________________ Neuston Boards

It would only really help if you are casing the wake (coming too short). Try it. _________________

What are you having problems with?
Are you not getting all the way around
or are you not going the distance? |

Main problem is things seem to be happening too fast,
also will often stick the nose of the board into the water (both reg and switch) on landing.
I suppose that means I need to pop more and float down? |

I have the same problem as you do. I was thinking of shortening the rope too. I heard that by putting more weight on the boat, slow the boat down so the wake becomes bigger and the distance between wakes increases. At the same time use a shorter rope to do a one wake backroll (not clearing the 2nd wake). Since the boat speed is now slower so it won't hurt as much when you crash and you won't case the wake since u r only doing 1 wake. By doing 1 wake, you can edge in w/ a lot less distance so it is slower n you will have a lot more time to focus on poping it upward. Someone taught me this trick, but I haven't tried it yet. Does it make sense to you at all? |

I wasnt making the rotation at 65 feet so i moved out to 70 and took a harder cut. If you make sure to consciously straighten you legs at the top of the wake and go for a big pop you'll make the rotation. Here's a link to the first one i landed on sunday. If you stop it and start at the very first frame, you can see how straight my legs are, thats the KEY to getting enough pop to make it all the way

| I landed my first BACKROLL with a 40' rope (Yes 40'...). At this lenght you can slower the boat with still a good wake. Now I can do BR at almost all lenght and speed (except 90' at 36mph !!! ) |
