Please tell me what is wrong on my backroll. Here are 2 video clips attached; the 1st one I did a revert and the 2nd one I almost landed it.

1st attempt

2nd attempt

I'm trying it again this Thursday. I really hope that if I could hear your comments by then before I try it.

You pretty much have it. The 1st one looked like you rotated your shoulders / body a little. The second one looked good, try to let the handle out a little bit if u feel like ur over rotating. Also i think you could wait a little longer, and make sure to really stand tall at the wake, try taking a more progressive edge at the wake, and really give it that pop at the top of it... try to stand taller and give a couple more tries youll get it.

You should have it this Thursday man. You over rated just a hair too much on the 2nd attempt. I cant say much though. You are 95% of the way there. Just stick the damn thing! Thats all you need to hear at this point.

Thanks for all your comments. Do u guys think if letting my back hand off the handle would help the landing, that is preventing from turning into a revert n the over rotation?

Just do what your doing, ull get it.... im assuming ur trying it more than twice in a set? For backrolls i normally keep both hands on the handle, allows for some sketchyier landing hehe

Thanks for your comment. I usually try 3 to 5 of them on each set. I tried 3 on the same set on that day but the 3rd one I started rotation way too soon, missed the pop n landed on my head. I can't get a consistent pop that's my problem. I landed this trick in early May this year n lost it ever since. I so want to get it back. Here's the video my friend made for me when I 1st landed it. But I'm doing it differently now w/ a shorter approach n coming in w/ less speed so that way I can have better timing since I'm more in control.

You are missing the pop because you are thinking about the trick. The roll happens so fast, that you dont have to really worry about "cheating" this trick off the top of the wake.

I beleieve you may not be taking enough edge into the wake on second thought. More so after you mentioned this. And that is causing you to do two things:

1) Over-rotate the good attempts
2) Start the spin to soon to make up for the slower edge, causing you to miss the pop

This thursday, try to take a strong(er) edge into the wake. This should help you from rushing the first half of the trick so much. You should get the pop, then throw your head and shoulders into it.

As for the landing... Again, I cant teach you how to land pretty. As a matter of fact, if it wasnt for editing and filming a rider all day, you would see that even the greatest fall, and have ugly landings. Those just rarely go into the films!

Thanks for your reply.

I think I know what you saying here... if I can edge in harder and have bigger air, then I should have slower rotation so I should have an easier landing.

But I'm still a little confused. Does stronger edge mean higher speed? Do I need to edge out further b4 starting to edge in? Or my distance is fine now as in the videos? I'm comfortable w/ the speed I'm coming in, if I edge in any faster I think I would have higher chance to miss the pop.

yeah i have the same problems with the backrolls, and coming in harder will help you get higher, just make sure you dont swing out to far on this trick just a little bit further than you would for a w2w jump, but you will get it soon the videos look sweet!
