Hey, sorry, i know this belongs in the accessories section of boating but not very many people go over there so im putting it here. I want to buy some ballast for my 23 ft sunesta deckboat, and I was wondering what would be the best place to put it and why? Thanks.

I'm not too sure about larger boats but I believe placement in an i/o is about front to back 60%/40%. Gotta make use of that V!

Thanks guys, but since it's a deck boat i can only put ballast in the front. Because of the way its shaped, I'd be unable to balance ballast weight in the back of the boat. I ride at 25 now and its a little fast but thats the speed where the wake really cleans up and isn't insanely wide. I don't know if this is because the boat is not planing or not. I figure if i put ballast in the front it will plane at lower speeds giving me a bigger wake and the same wake width i get at 25, while going about 23. If that's not the case, I should still be getting a bigger wake around 25 right? And also, how much ballast would you guys reccomend? Thanks again.

i have an I/O and i tried putting weight in the front, and it helps a lot. the main thing that it does is not so much make the boat weigh more and ride lower in the water, but it keeps the nose down, so you can put the trim up, which pushes the back of the boat into the water.

I also have to ride at 25 though, so im hoping theres a fix to this.

Xanadu, thanks. That makes sense. Anyone have any suggestions on what type of ballast I should get?

Check out sites like www.wakeside.com www.buywake.com www.boardstop.com to buy ballast, unless you already have a place to buy from?

Why would you buy ballast? Just load up some cardboard boxes with all kinds of $hit and cover them in a tarp so they don't get wet.

why do you need to scoop water into it? just fill it up with water at the dock and put it in your boat. it's what I do.
