change it up based on what you are trying to do. For normal riding, I would say 21-22 probably, but whatever gives you the best wake. For learning tricks, depending on what the trick is, you can slow the boat down as slow as 12 mph as long as you can stay above water. I did this when I was learning how to ride switch and do surface 360's. It makes the crashes much less intense.

TimmyDecker,

My son and I struggling with this question of Speed as well. I have normally pulled him about 17 to 18 mph (behind a Malibu 25 Lsv, plenty of wake). He is just starting out (First full season of Wakeboarding). He gets air, working toward air 360, but we always struggle with the discussion of Rope length and Boat speed. (the boat speed is a variable that I adjust based on the water condition).

What is your typical Rope length and boat speed? I've always wonder what these Pros wakeboard at. By the way, Son recently went finless. I cut the speed back down so that he could get the feel of going finless, now we are at 12 - 15mph. Needless to say.. the fins are gone from the board forever.... he loves it.

It's really your preference, most people go 21-25, and you can slow it down as long as your above the water to work on your surface tricks.

It really depends on the person but most people ride about 65 to 75 ft. rope. Start at 65 and go up. also is your son clearing the wake. if not, go faster to get the wake skinnier. Some pro's ride at 85 ft. Hope this helped

i find that on a ski boat if youre going about 17-18 mph that gives the rider enough confidence to try new tricks and makes it a lot easier to land them... once you get the trick down, i would speed up the boat cause it seems to wear me out a lot landing a good jump with some slack on the line when i land or just in general...latley i pushed the spped up to 20-21mph and i love it cause it feels like when i do edge in correctly i get a smooth take off and landing, the line stays tight so i get no jarring effect...
