Both boats are loaded. Both are about equal driving distance away. The X-star is about 3 grand more. both have about 150 hours. My wife likes the looks of the mobius over the X-star. I think the Mobius actually looks a little nicer too. But, is this even comparing apples to apples?! Doesn't the X-star have one of the most favored wakes for boarding? At least that's the impression I get from hanging around here? Also, I would think it would be easier to sell a Mastercraft than a Moomba a few years down the road? Seems like SOME people really don't like the moomba's and even bash them a bit where as the Mastercraft has a reputable name? Does the V-drive Moomba from 2003 have a good wake, never been behind one?

biglouie, You covered it all, it is one of the most favored wakes, and it will sell better in the future. We'll worth the $3k extra.

X-STAR no contest. It has a better wake and like everyone has said it will be easier to sell.

I'll help you out here.

The two boats really aren't in the same class. Bottom line, the Moomba is a budget boat. They're still well made as far as the fiberglass construction goes but the fit and finish really isn't there. The seats are very boxy and are not very comfortable. Just the overall finish of the boat makes it look quite cheap when you compare the two. The X-star isn't perfect by any means, it's got a slightly smaller interior and a bit less storage, you could argue they're about the same. The seats however are rounded off and contour more to you when you're sitting, and the x-star will feel far more solid when your running through the chop. Overall it is just hands down a better overall boat in nearly every catagory. The wake is the main thing though and the X-star is in a different class all together. People will still argue that the 205 hull is the best MC boarding hull still in their line up. The 2003 Moomba hull is pretty far down the skiiers choice best hull line up.

things to look for on the 01 Xstar. Stearing cable. Ask if it's been replaced. If it hasn't there's a good chance it needs to be. Vinyl seams in the seats were prone to split as well in that year. Both not a huge deal but if they aren't in the best shape that would give you some bargaining power.

My friend has an '01 x-star and I ride in it all the time and have been in an LSV a couple of times. I like both boats, but the x-star is capable of throwing a massive wake, but you will need throw extra bags in the bow and in the stern if you want the pro wakes that people rave about unless you have 6+people in the boat. I think the LSV throws a pretty good wake too with the 3 ballast sacks, but not in the same league as a weighted X-star. The x-star can have some vinyl issues and would also ask / inspect the tranny for leaks - I recall this being an issues with my friend and seem to remember others posting about this.

A lot of people do not like the small freeboard of the LSV and how low the seats are. If both boats are in good conditition I would roll with the X-star, but wouldn't completely dismiss the idea of a Moomba if it was in much better condition and priced right.

On another forum I had a guy tell me that moombas are the bayliners of ski boats. That makes me ill. Do you all agree? Any moomba owners out there want to speak up? Thanks.

I think you first need to think about what your motivation and desired end result in buying your boat is...
Do you have a "boat load" of money and it doesn't matter where it goes?
Do you care more about how many people are looking at your boat on the trailer than how much boarding time you are getting behind it?
A couple of the many questions you should look at before spending your money.
As far as the MC over the Moomba.... I think if you have the money, go with the boat that has the reputation, history, and proven record. The MC.
But, if you want to save a few dollars, and get a really great boat at the same time, go with the Moomba.
I have a 99 Mobius 20-6" direct drive. It's had absolutely no problems at all, and I am the original owner. It has 258 hours. It has a built in Ballast tank that works awsome and has never malfunctioned once. I have made no repairs to the engine other than servicing it.
The only thing about the moomba that I don't like is the tower mounts. They are little sloppy and don't fit the nice attention to detail features that the rest of the boat has.
The wake is great, but I don't have a lot to compare it to as I have'nt ridden behing many other boats. Hope this helped.
Have fun riding.
