I would imagine you'd get a much much better wake out of the 2nd. The first, you won't be able to add any weight to it because it's so low to the water already, it's built for speed and looks. The 2nd is a tank, I bet with some trial and error you could get a monster wake from that.

py, dude... what is your budget for a boat? Throw that out there and people can probably help you with some ideas on what to get. I don't mean to be an ass at all, but those will be pieces of sh*t for wakeboarding and you'll be bored in about 3 seconds, not to mention embarrased by that floating bathtub. Laughing Seriously though, tell us what you're working with and people will help you find something good! Cool

py, Hmm, you really will struggle with $1k.

The running costs alone of a boat are generally considerably more than 1000 per year.

Not to put you off, but boats are real money pits, they cost a lot to keep up to the standards required for safe operation and in good order.

I'd really look to save up more, at least 8-9k. and throw it down on a newer boat that you can work on. You'll also need to set aside about 1.5k a year for insurance, kit, maintenance etc...

For the time being, is there anyone you can hook up with to go ride? or maybe get some time behind a local Wakeboard or Ski Schools boat?

Don't buy a boat. Look for some pulls around so-cal and save your money. I don't know how the scene is around there but here in Dallas there are people looking for others to ride with all the time and they usually have top knotch wakeboard boats.

Those are both high. Insurance will be around $300 and maintenance can range from very little -- $100 to a couple thousand. Since you know a lot about engines that will help but I would budget for a couple hundred a year.

Wakebrad, Sorry.. confusion! I meant $1.5k for insurance, maintenance, kit etc.. all in one. Which i would reckon is about right.

I know its considerably cheaper in the US but over here we won't get away with less than £1.5k ($2,800) in odds and ends. Its amazing how everything mounts up.

^^^ Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing yea you wont get a good board for 1 grand. Just save up. My first boat cost us 13 grand, a 1900 mastercraft maristar, it was worth the save.

For under a grand you're really not going to find anything that is well suited for wakeboarding. (The only advise I can offer is if you absolutely must get a boat with decent freeboard, and make sure that it has enough power to pull up a boarder.)

I'd put that money in the bank if I were in your shoes... Where do you live? Maybe you can get hooked up with some local riders and go out riding with them.

If you're really interested look for a trashed 80s inboard skiboat. You will likely have to replace the interior and engine or at least rebuild. It will also probably cost you slightly more than a grand but if you get it up and running and get it cleaned up it could be worth $6-7k when you're done. You could actually make some money on it if you do a good job.

The best option for this is to get a "Ski Nautique 2001" which was only made in the 80s. They are not easy to find though and will probably take you a while to get it up and running.

Even if you fix up these other boats they're still not going to be worth very much and you likely won't get the money out of the repairs.

I love boat #2. I won't be trading in anytime soon but if I was working with that budget, that one would be a contender! I love it! Does it have a working 8 track? that's total bonus points

I'd beg for pulls for a while and save up a bit more $$$. I think that wakebrad has it right. Find an 80's boat that has issues (but a good hull), fix it up, use it, and in a few years sell it for a profit. Then repeat.
