Hi!
I'm wakeboarding in Sweden and right now it's like 60 F in the water here.
(well it's like 60 F in the air as well...)
Yesterday I was out wakeboarding without a wetsuit and thought it started to get cold.
When would you say it is too cold to wakeboard without a wetsuit and when is it to cold to wakeboard even with a wetsuit?
I'm just trying to figure out when my season has to come to an end...

You can probably still go in 60 F, I'd say once you get in the water and you're absolutely freezing even with a wetsuit then it's over. But this is my first season, so other people will have better advice here. _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

When the combined air and water tempertaure doesn't go above 100 degrees.
Then it would be wetsuit time, but here in Central FL they start wearing a drysuit when the water temp drops when into the 60's
Drysuit when it's ice and snow time. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

Hmm.... well I ride for fun, and when I'm freezing my ass off to the point that I don't want to ride because it's not fun anymore then I stop. I once went really late in the season and when I got out I was having trouble breathing, so that's probably an indicator too. |

its allways summer inside of a dry suit I never stop wakeskating. I actually like it when the water is cold... all of the weekend warriors who throw power turns all day long stay off the water. _________________ www.norcalwake.com | www.integrity-wake.com | www.chriscut.com |

I go by the 100 point rule
water temp + air temp > 100, for me to ride. _________________ '05 Supra Launch 24SSV |

Mike, wouldn't YOU be the best judge of when the water is too cold for you? Different people have different tolerance levels. What is too cold for me might be completely different for you. Savvy? |

Well here in Sweden the water peaks at about 72 degrees at most and that will only last a couple of weeks. The rest of the year it is below 70 degrees, so if I didn't wakeboard in below 70 degrees water I wouldn't have much of an wakeboarding season.
Actually last time I rode was the first time I stuck a w2w 3', before I have only done it one wake. I also got my first BS 1' out in the flats.
So I'm still progressing in 60 degree water!
Right now my goal with this season is to be able to try my new Watson 138 with LE watsons and my accurate A-line with premier handle. The problem is that these things are at my pal's house in Atlanta and won't get here for another 2 months.
By then I guess the water will be 50 degrees or less, but I hope to be able to do it with a good wetsuit... otherwise I will have to try to hook me up with an old friends drysuit..
By the way... any suggestions about which wetsuit to get? I'm looking for a wetsuit that will keep you warm in cold waters and that would be good for wakeboarding. Not prohibit my flexibility et cetera..

yeah i like the fact that when it gets a little bit later in the season, there is not as much boat traffic. i have a 7mm wetsuit and it works great. got it from a scuba shop. _________________ Go Big. Go Bigger. Bubb Rubb going home. |

| 60 water and 60 air for me. Yesterday I was riding at 55 air and ~65 water and my wife and mother-in-law were a bit concerned. Wife (driver) has ankle surgery in 2 days, so it's probably the end of the season for me. |

| the only thing that really limits you are cold feet. its possible to survive in any water if you are outfitted properly but since bindings limit your ability to wear booties you cant ride in water that is insanely cold. |

in the winter where i live the air warms up to about 75f but drops to about 41f during the night. its not too bad if u wakeboard in the middle of the the day cause the sun warms u up. in summer its about 100 during the day and about 71 at night. _________________ i love lamp. Crikey |

well in december-januari it might get down to about 0 degrees and will definitly go below 32 degrees almost every day. Air temperature of course...
I can't really see my self wakeboarding in a dry suit but I will buy a wet suit soon. Probably like 5mm.

I figured out that 60F is 15,5Celcius.. that's way to cold, even with a wetsuite (for me)
17C (=63F) is the min temp, which is still pretty cold to me...
After 15mins, my feet are freezing aff...
we still have a few weeks to go, but it's going colder here now
today it's 26C (=80F)
the season ends here around October 15th
Time to wax the snowboards again _________________ * riding finless teaches you to get your edge down properly, when you do it with fins, you'll be able to cut like OJ Simpson

I talked to my cusin about this and her new boyfriend apparently go surfing in north west of england even in december. Below 32 degrees in the air and about 40 degrees in the water... with just a wetsuit...
So I guess it can be done... |

I am in the Edmonton area and it was a rock'n 26C yesterday. Rode till aftersun down shorts only.
My personal best is November 11 Riding. The water falling off the wetsuit was frezzing on the boat. After 3 sets each, there was 2 inches of solid Ice on the back of the boat. Being in Canada, YES, we drank cold beer after!!!!!! |

In Wisconsin, we stop going when you can't get the boat in the water because the edges of the shore start to freeze over...OK, actually around the end of September. Have to pick and choose your days in September because there aren't many warm ones. _________________ "This is looking really good" |

Now that I have a drysuit...any water is fine as long as its not frozen. The problem is air because your hands are exposed and if you have gloves theyre still wet and the wind makes them cold. My hands swelled up so bad when it was 45 air and water that I couldnt pass the handle on my 3s. (Yes my hands swell when its freezing idk why) Id like air to be above 45 but as long as its over 20 ill go if im desperate.
Before last year, I had a shorty wetsuit/springsuit and I rode as long as the water was 48 or above and air above 50. No joke, when your addicted enough, its worth it. |

| My lake is usually only between 65-67 all summer, so 70 degrees feels really warm to me! I usually wear a wetsuit top even during the summer if the outside air is cold, yes I'm a wuss. I wear a full wetsuit at like 60 degrees and below, usually in the Spring at my lake, it doesn't start warming up till mid-June. |
