I've heard the dvd is very good but instead of using slow motion it only uses freeze frames.

The book is great. It has helped me gain a ton of confidence to try new things. Definitely worth the money.

I watched "The Rider's Edge - Beginner" and "Detention" and I think that Rider's Edge is better for absolute newbies. It's what it claims to be, a beginner guide that goes through everything from rope length, board setup, posture, and handle control to surface tricks, W2W jumps, and spins.

At least for me, The Rider's Edge was more informative. Detention was good as well, and made much more sense AFTER watching The Rider's Edge.
