Help!!! I need some advice when it comes to progressive edging...here's my problem. This is my first summer wakeboarding and I have gotten fairly comfortable with my edges or so I thought. Lately I have been doing a couple habits HS that I know I need to change but don't know how to change them. First is my speed going into the wake...I think this is due to me cutting into the wake to hard to early but because of my speed I am just platoing over the wake rather then popping off of it (I clear it I just never get much air). Second is my horrible habit of taking in the wake when I go over it rather then standing tall and getting that well needed pop. I cut in HS with knees bent and think about standing up when I hit the wake the problem is I feel like when I do this I lose my edge and get all nervous and suck in the wake with my knees. So how can I progressivly edge into the wake, not too fast, keep on edge and stand up when I get to the wake? If anyone has any advice, or some different techniques for me to think about when I am out there that would be great! |

it sounds ilke you know what your doing wrong so just fix it.
don't try cutting so far to the outside.. most good guys will tell you they only need to go a couple feet outside the wake to get full pop.
so only cut a few feet outside so you won't wuss out. |

| I am just getting my progressive edge down, so I am not the best person to give advice. When I first started learning it, I would not bend at the knees as much when cutting in. This made for less motion to go from knees bent to standing tall, and made the timing a little easier. The better I got at it, the more I started bending my knees and approaching the wake in a more seated position edging harder. Someone can correct me if this is stupid advice, but it worked for me. |

| As far as speed goes I would try to let yourself "Drift" into the wakes longer before really digging in your edge. This will delay your edge, and in turn delay the speed you will gain going into the wakes. Start to really dig in the edge when you are close to the boat's spray mark (water spray from the hull of the boat). Then edge HARD to build speed. Since you're not already going very fast, its a natural tendency to really edge hard AND all the way through the wake to get enough speed to go w2w. By building too much speed too soon most people let off their edge by the time they reach the wake, which really hurts your jumps. Slow down some and delay your hard edge and get your speed at the last minute....this REALLY helped me learn the right technique and how to edge through the wake. Then once you are used to it and not afraid of the speed you can start digging that edge in further out and still maintain it for some really nice jumps! Good luck to you! |

Make sure you load the line when you're progressive edging so there's no slack in the rope. _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |
