Anyone have any helpful tips for teaching a buddy how to maintain a correct speed without the speedo? I find it next to impossible as of late, to even so much as clear the wake, as I end up hitting a washed out lip every time I start to cut in. It is a 2001 Moomba Mobius LS

it might be easier to have him maintain an rpm rather then the speed. although the speed wont be dead on, you wont get as much fluctation if he sets it at your desired rpm. otherwise you will find he is constantly adjusting as the speed fluctuates a little bit, which really throws things off....

or the next time he rides have the speed all over the place for him... he will get the message!

Johny_WA, Hey,

It's a practiced thing...tell him to listen to your engine and look at the tach, you'll have a fair idea of where to be...have a third person ride while you drive and SHOW him what it's about (throttle up in the turns, etc) you'll get it...

Wait, your boat doesn't have a speedo? You need to get one. Really, if you don't already have one, just get perfect pass and install it. You can go based on RPM but that is really inconsistent. The difference between headwind and tailwind, chop vs smooth will still make going off the RPMs difficult.

In your situation, perfect pass is well worth it. And you will get most of the money out of the investment when you sell the boat.
