first of all, for my first invert should i do a bak roll or a tantrum. im getting down the 360 and i can do 180 grabs. So next year i want to try a invert when i go to lake powell. second, which woujld be easier to land first, a ralley or some type or invert? Thanks Alot _________________ Liquid Force Flite 135

| i would suggest backroll. i wouldn't go to a raley after that. maybe learn a tantrum or a toeside invert like a scarecrow. |

a raley will kill you. literally. Tantrum falls hurt the least, the backrolls, then bulletwounds, then hand grenades, then raleys.
Imagine.. if you will, being 8 (+/-) feet in the air, 20+ mph, and catching that toeside edge. men who throw raleys have GUTS. raley spills are probably the most painful crashes on a wakeboard. I have tried all three inverts listed above (tantrum, backroll, raley) with no luck. I'm getting close to the backroll and tantrum, but I can tell you that I'm not trying a raley again without a wakeskate. |

NHWakeRider, like i said before... IMAGINE...
8+ feet in the air + 20+ mph + a LOT of line tension = holy $#!T OUCH.
I've tried ONE and I will never try another until I get a wakeskate. I've heard stories of coughing up blood and $#!T. I was lucky and just had a REALLY bad headache. |

ive gotton the wind knocked out of me many times, hurt my face..broke my binding..pretty much was sore for a few days multiple times not a good trick to randomly do dont rush it it can hurt but if you dive with your hands when you fall it doesnt hurt so bad i know that from exp. But wakeboarding is all about being crazy and trying new stuff who knows you might stick it the 5th time i stuck my backroll the 9th time to my great surprise dont be scared to try new things or your never progess
thats my .10$ _________________

Try them all, raley falls arent so bad if you dont let go and dont take your eyes off the boat. But your first one usually goes bad If you dont have enough pop for a backroll and catch that front edge it can hurt just as bad or worse. If your are scared of if the trick will hurt the tantrum is probably the best bet, its pretty easy, you can see the water the whole time, and you wont really catch and edge and hit the water hard. Hope this helps.
P.S. exofusion does not accept any responsibility for serious injury or death associated with raley attemps. |

A tantrum is going to be the easiest, but a raley is definately the coolest and hardest at the same time.
I have recently landed raley's and learning them hurt so bad. No pain I have ever felt compares to the first raley I tried. People in the boat said it was easily 8 feet in the air, I pulled down late just from inexperience and caught the toeside edge, I got winded so bad I couldn't breath until the boat circled around.
The next time I screwed one up bad I blacked out, and the next time my face went numb. All that aside it's the funnest trick I've ever landed and was deffinately worth it.
I have some of the falls on video if anyone wants to watch =). |

Don't forget you're lateral speed towards the wake also, and you need alot of that becuase you pretty much have to land in the flats to have the air time. |

so a backroll is pretty much just like a backflip on a snowboard? _________________ From ice-out to ice-in, ride untill you fall out of your bindings.

backroll = cartwheel with the board staying parallel to the boat...

raleys are inverts first of all. And yes, backrolls and trantrums are a lot easier. The falls on raleys are bad! I got a bruise across my whole leg trying them last year. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Actually, unless you are throwing a mexican roll, in a backroll the board should be perpindicular to the boat... not parallel. The board should be parallel to the boat in a tantrum.
I say try raleys first, and film it. then you can show us... |

| i agree with everyone else that you should learn a tantrum or backroll first (whichever feels more naturual) then learn some toeside tricks ie. scarecrow, frontroll, toeside backs are not bad either....i learned a raley as my 3rd invert....i wouldn't reccomend doing it this way but if you do the key to a raley is commitment.....if you go out there and give it a good solid committed try you are not going to take to bad of falls....the horrible wrecks you hear about are when ppl dont commit....i learned it the 6th try....just make sure no matter what u do u pull it down....at the same token a got a concussion in an INT contest 3 days later on the same trick....(learn your rolls first) just my .o2$ |

| I love the raley. Commitment is the key though, I learned a raley as my 2nd invert on my 4th try and absolutely love doing it. As long as you get the board flat on the water you wont get hurt. It's like your childhood dream of being able to fly coming true. It's all a matter of prefrence, I deffinately wouldnt learn it as my 1st invert though, you need amazing pop to do it. I'd say go with the tantrum I hear from alot of people that they can do it after only a few tries. |

Here is a question, what type of air do you require to do a Raley? I can jump HS with about 5 of air into the flats consistently (it's only an 18.5ft I/O with 600lb sac & tower). Is this enough air to try or am I dumb? Should this trick even be attempted behind an I/O?
As for Tantrums and backrolls, behind my boat I can land Tantrums about 2 out 3 times, but yesterday I rode behind a new malibu with 600lbs and a wedge and only stuck 2 out of 6 and crashed good on the others plus 2 Back Roll attempts. I can barely move my neck today and I smacked my face on the tantrums on the opposite wake a few times. I really expected them to be easier but I think I just threw them to early and didn't spin fast enough cause I thought I'd have more air. Do you guys find the wake on the Malibus wide? This one sure seemed wide at 21-22 mph. _________________ 2010 Watson Hybrid

Depending on what you're used to riding behind, a Malibu wake (at least the VLX I ride behind a lot) is as wide a wake as you'll see for a similarly sized boat. |
