Hi all,

I juste discovered this website and it's the most amazing riding website I've seen! Anyway... I read quite a few posts on tantrums...but I guess I just have to hear what I'm doing wrong and what I should concentrate on next time I go on the water.
So it seems that I'm somehow over-rotating and complete the roll sort of towards the boat. When I try, I mostly focus on letting go the hand and then I just feel like I'm getting kicked backwards, then in the middle of the jump the handle gets ripped off my hands and I end up "completing" this off-axis tatrum and landing on the tail of my board.

I've uploaded a vid here: http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php?medid=19934

What am I doing wrong?

Also I was wondering what other tricks I should try...the last tricks I landed are ts 3's, grabbed hs 3's and backroll-to-revert...any advice?

thanks

I've never tried one myself, but it looks kinda like you're putting in a spin with it.

ive never landed one before but have tried but..... it looks like your not making the board parrellel to the wake right before you jump...your taking off like a normal wake jump. right before the top of the wake turn your board parrellel and throw your head straight back and keep the arm holding on the handle straight down.

sorry if this doesnt make any sense....

u r not flipping off the wake. You want to aproch the wake. Litterly let the wake trip you start your flip rotation just under the crest of the wake

get a wakeboard line. what it looks like is that you're using a ski line. DAMN there was alot of slack coming into the landing. HOLY CRAP. but look at yourself RIGHT when you're at the crest of the wake. WRONG. you should be squared up to the wake (parallel) and your shoulders should be back. you are standing tall, and that is good. Now look at you three feet in the air. you haven't even BEGUN the rotation yet. you should be almost if not halfway around by this point.

Cut in, square up to the wake (standing tall), drop your shoulders back, rise with your chest and look back. Bring your knees IN to SPEED up the rotation and keep/let them OUT to SLOW the rotation. You should be able to spot your landing almost straight off of the wake.

This wasn't a bad try.

a trick I've found with the tatrum is to take off the wake with a cartwheel mindset. so take off with a right handed cartwheel in mind...tuck and let the boat bring you around...but don't cartwheel all the way through, think backfilp... in your video you're throwing the spin to your left...

Ok...so it really is the "square up" part that doesn't work.....So should I try tio let go the hand a little earlier? When you square up, do you just let the board slide by letting the hand go or do you actively turn it?
Also about the handle down: does it help to really push it down, because I feel like I'm just trying to have my arm straight pointing towards the boat.

Another thing that kind of bothers me is that I feel like the wake is tripping me...I can feel myself being thrown backwards just at this really weird angle.

Robert Harp: lol..I'm pretty sure it's a wakeboarding line...it's spectra and my local shop sold it to me as a wakeboard line Rolling Eyes
What happens is that while I'm in the air, the handle gets this massive pull the rips it out of my hands and probably gets the line looking like a bungy Smile

Thanks all...I can't wait to go square up...unfortunately today it looks like the wind as taken over my lake...

You do square up but it's after you're already in the air. That's what is causing you to rotate on a weird axis. You can actually land the trick this way but it's better to just learn the correct tecnique. You want to have the board and your back perpendicular with the wake when you're at the top of the wake. You still want to push off and extend your legs but you want to be completely facing shore at the top of the wake. And hold onto the rope. The tension might seem too hard but it shouldn't be. Just hang on!

Wakebrad, dont you mean parallel to the wake? (board and back... 4th sentence.)

Renuplex, well sorry, I'm not a wakeline pro. Crying or Very sad
Try keeping your elbow in to your hipand bent at a 90 degree angle. This allows you to let it out if it needs out and in if in needs in.

Robert Harp, can you do a tantrum? I was just wondering if this was from personal experiance or just reading up from other comments and trick help. I just was wondering because I thought you posted somewhere that you would never go upside down. Maybe it was someone else.

Good advice either way. I've used it on my tantrums.

Oasis137, yes it was me but I HAVE BEEN TRYING.. FINALLY I GOT PAST THIS MENTAL BLOCK!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I can't LAND them but I can throw them prefectly, it's the whole 'land' thing that gets me. but yes you are correct, I have yet to land an invert. But yes I have read and I own 'Waketrix' and 'the book', so I think I know what I'm talking about, but I have been proven wrong many....many times. Sad

Hi renuplex,
What you are doing wrong on the tantrum is definetely the edge.
The beginning of your edge is ok (building speed) but at the end you must flatten off your board and going to a neutral edge ( both board and shoulders parallel with the wake at the take off). Switching the edge from heelside to neutral, decrease the line tension and allow you to do a back tuck or lay out.
Just try to change your edge and you'll land your tantrum soon.

hey,

i have never completly landed it but ive gotten close... and it seems like your doing a normal jump then turning parallel to the wake and then trying to do the tantrum. when you come up to the wake just before you hit the top of the wake straiten your board out and drop your heelside edge, the wake will trip you over into the tantrum

That off-axis tantrum looks SOOO much better than a regular one. I don't know anything about inverts but if it's not a whole lot harder, why not try to land the way you're doing it? If that's sheer stupidity, then come on, flame me, but I already said I don't know anything about tantrums, I just know I like that off-axis tantrum.
