I know we all live Cookie Crisp, Lucky Charms etc. But what's you favorite heathy cereal. Since I have lost over 25lbs being sick, I'm trying to keep it off and lose a bit more. My understanding is that every diet, weight loss program and so on all have one thing in common, You have to consume less than you burn to loose weight. I'm doing calorie counting, loosly. For my weight and age and activity level, and can eat about 2000 to 2300 calories a day. I'm trying to stay under that and have been looking at calories in foods. I am surprised at the number of caloires in lots of stuff. Quart of milk, which I drink almost everyday is around 600. Fruit juices, tons. Pretty much every small portion/serving size of anything is about 100 to 150, sometimes higher. Calorie counting may not be the best way, but I know it works. Burn more calories than you eat, weight drops. Eat more than you burn, gain weight.

With all that said, I'm just wondering if any of you eat healthy cereal as part of weight managment, and what do you eat?

Unrelated question. My friend had his few year old Chevey Tahoe break down 3 hours away. He said that he broke down the day before, had his truck and boat towed to a shop. They replaced some things, and sent hom on his way truck running fine. He gets a 100 miles down the road and it does it again. It just wont run, he steps on the gas pedel and it doesn't go anywhere, the moter dies. I guess it idles rough, the dies when he steps on the gas. He towed it to Chevey dealer, then got ride home. dealer looks at it today, says nothing wrong. It ran fine in the parking lot for a couple hours, they took it for a 30 mile drive, no problems. I suggested an electrical problem since it is intermittent. Perhpas a coil wire, but now I'm not sure if they even have coil wires. Very weak spark and an accelerator pedal of fuel would kill the engine wouldn't it? The trouble codes say a snesor fo some kind is bad, but nothing else. The dealer say the sensor wouldn't cause it. Maybe vacuum? We are pickin it up sat and hoping it makes it 3 hours home. I will take my truck and tow his boat. And ideas?

I eat oatmeal A LOT.
Check this out...

mix some vanilla or chocolate Metabolic Drive protein mix with water, pour over oatmeal and let it soak for a bit or cook it as normal, as in eat it cold or hot.

add walnuts and frozen berries to the mix, and you have a healthy mix of fruit, fiber, protein, good carbs and good fat.

I eat Raisin Bran sometimes. I think that is pretty healthy. A bowl of oatmeal using skim milk is around 230 calories. A good way to cut out A LOT of calories is to quit drinking soda. Pretty much any drink has a lot of calories in it, too. Also, try to eat foods that are low in caloric density so that you do not go around hungry all day. A regular sized can of green beans only has 70 calories. I believe carrots are really low in caloric density. 3500 calories equal 1 pound so you want to figure out how many calories in a day allow you to maintain. (~2300 in Darin's case) So if you're under that by 500 calories every day then you should be losing 1 pound every 7 days.

That's the reason for drinking Diet sodas. Wink
For Cereal it all depends what fluid medium I'm using....Special K if I have yogurt, 2% milk with Kashi Puffed wheat or Shredded Wheat.

I've been drinking this stuff called Clear SPlash. I was a HEAVY soda drinker. But the clear splach stuff is calorie free and carbonated juice flavored stuff. It's not as tasty as Pepsi, but it give you that carbonated throat burn. Smile

I wouldn't really call ANY cereal 'healthy'. Most are rapid inducers of insulin and break down into sugars very quickly. They won't give you that long term fuel burn that you need from your morning meal.

I eat old fasioned (slow cook) oatmeal with mixed berries.. YUM.

Honey Nut Cheerios. Not really low in sugar. But it is packed with Fiber and plenty of other goodies.

Raisin Bran... I love the raisins... wish they'd put more in it, maybe 3 scoops of raisins instead of the traditional 2?

I'm hungry now... when's lunch?!

(edit because apparantly I can't spell raisin)

Kashi Go LEan is definitely a healthy cereal...13g of protein, 10g of fiber, and low fat. It tastes..okay, not delicious, but okay. I usually eat a bowl in the morning and one after the gym or if as a snack in between meals

kashi go lean also has like 240 cals in 1/2 or 3/4 cup of cereal...so if you are counting cals there are lower cal choices or you can just reduce the number of cals in a later meal if you choose to eat it

wrong atx wakegirl. Go lean has 140 calories per serving which is one full cup.

Now each gram of protein packs 4 calories...so 13 times 4 is 52. So that leaves 88 calories that you could consider not healthy out of which 10g are fiber. Fiber is a carb and carb also packs 4 calories per gram...so thats 40 calories. Now we have only 48 unaccounted for calories and out of that only one gram is fat. Fat has 9 calories per gram. There are few choices out there that would be lower in caloric intake with as much fiber and protein as Go lean.
