Posted: Aug 20, 2006 3:12 pm Post subject: What type of boat??? |
|
|
I'm completely new to boating and wakeboarding. My sons and I snowboard in the winter therefore are looking to wakeboard for all yaer round boarding. However, what type of boat do I need? inboard or outboard? minimum hp etc Also does anyone have any info on the Blue Water Image 190 SS or Crownline 18 BR.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. |

I can noy believe that all the experience out there results in no replies. All I am looking for is some advice on hp. The boat of choice for my family is the four winns 180 0r 190 also maxum sr3 180.
C'mon people - speak out.
Thanks - a desperate and confused newbie |

| it depends, if you guys are really into the sport, want to progress faster, and never give up the sport than you could look at a wakeboarding boat. but if u would just prefer to spend less money on a boat thats not a wakeboarding boat, thats great. its whatever boat sounds good to u. o and to answer ur question, u can use any boat to wakeboard. |

I have a Maxum, its a great boat, just not a great wakeboarding boat. I would recommend an inboard made for wakeboarding. Check the boating forum for tons and tons of boat info. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

You can wakeboard behind anything, but a true board boat is always going to be the nicest. In order of worst to first:
4) Fishing boat with outboard.
3) I/O
2) Inboard
1) V-drive
That said, I ride using my 19' I/O and it's just fine. And it cost half new of what a used board boat costs. But I am going to upgrade in a couple years.

An inboard is definitely better to use for wakeboarding. _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

| what is your price range? because in terms of a four winns 180 or 190 vs. an older inboard you better go with the inboard. what year four winns? |

| I just bought an all round boat - Blue Water Image 190 LSE (4.3 Volvo GXi 225hp) with a Skylon Swoop Tower and Kenwood sound system. Awesome for the family and adjusting the trim delivers a really good clean wake - maybe not for pro's that want massive air, but for beginners/intermediates it's fantastic!!!!!!! |

| Will your family be cruising, anchored for swimming, or just general hang out usage the majority of the time, or will the boat be used 90% of the time for wakeboarding. I have a 21' Chaparral I/O with a Chevy 350 (5.7L) engine. We ski and wakeboard about half the time, the rest of the time we cruise, or anchor and swim/hang out. I spent $10k on my boat and had the best summer of my life. Spending $30k+ on a wakeboard specific boat would not have enhanced my summer at all. Would I love to have a nice Mastercraft or Nautique, absolutely. But at this point, I couldnt justify the cost versus my activities. |
