mechanics HATE salwater boats, some wont touch them and yes its very easy to tell ones been insalt water. it reduces value too. the salt is also ahrd ont he boat. very abrasive and youll bneed to clean it more and spray it down

All boats will work in salt water just as well as in fresh water, but......salt water is very corrosive. Just like wake monster said you will have to be very dilligent with the flushing of the motor, washing down the exterior and I would't even think about letting my trailer touch salt water. Shocked If you must play in salt think about a salt water specific boat. These boats have more stainless steel in their plumbing and more sacrificial annodes. As for the trailer most marinas will lift your boat in the water for a small fee. This keeps your trailer from ever touching salt water. Hope this helps and good luck. Neutral

Uhm maybe mechanics who dont live near the ocean, but any mechanic here in miami who wants to stay in business will have to service salt water boats. Just make sure u flush the engine and clean the inside after every use. You will see which parts are not made from stainless steal and i would recommend replacing those screws and what not. Ive had my 94 prostar 205 for almost 4 -5 yrs now and it runs in salt water most the time, sure cleaning is a little more work but its worth it. Our boat has almost 1400hrs on it with no major mechanical problems...

I live on the coast of SC and am in the same boat (definte pun intended) as you. However, after debating all the pros and cons of putting a boat in saltwater I have decided to buy a Mastercraft Saltwater series boat. They are the only company making fully maranized boats. Take a peak at thier website. 2006 was the forst year of production. So I am hoping to get a used on for next season. Any boat can go in the saltater, it just boils down to more maintance. I want to spend my free time riding....not cleaning the boat!

the only problem is just, the wear that the salt will have on the outside and engine of the boat, im all for tige but in this situation mastercraft with there saltwater series may be a better way to go that is if you dont mind flushing out you boat and thouroughly cleaning it often.
Anyone can help me on this but is there any other saltwater boats other than mc?
