| whether i agree with their reasons for doing it or not, i think it's respectable that they stand by their opinions enough to lose money over it. it's their store so they can do what they want with it. personally if i was in charge of wal mart i would still sell the magazines because it's not like they're keeping people form buying them. they're just losing money to other stores who sell the stuff they don't.

I agree. It is respectable that they stand by their opinions even if it means they lose money.
The article said that many customers felt "uncomfortable" with those magazines being on the shelf. It makes me wonder about people who are uncomfortable with the magazine covers......too sensitive?

i would think the only people that would make uncomfortable is a 8 year old kid with his grandma. how much money does that age group spend at wal mart anyway.
besides, not that i'm racist or anything, what about low rider magazine? they have to sell that at wal mart and it always has a half naked chick on the cover.

| Yeah, I am just wondering why these three magazines are the only ones being targeted and taken off the shelves. Hmmmm

Perhaps they should be placed higher on the shelves, or in little black wrappers like those other 'naughty' mags.
What is the difference with putting it in a magazine, or having shop dummies standing around in lingerie?
It could be worse....maybe soon they will start targeting Wakeboarding magazies that have pics of you in them P-chick

screw wal-mart, shop at target. i shopped at wal-mart and still do sometimes, but since they went to the "super" thing i can't find nothing. it's like they care one, brand name product when they used to have three different brand names for that one product. and the "uncomfortable" crap...if i was 8 years old seeing a FHM on the shelf, the only thing that would make me feel "uncomfortable"...holding my grandmothers hand while checking out the cover. most kids don't really care about that anyway. they rather be hiding in the clothes racks or run crazy in the store. i was in a wal-mart a month ago and they had all the employees in the middle of the store, doing a "prep rally" i guess, cheering and clapping, in the mean time i needed some help but they were to busy acting stupid in front of the whole store.
not a big fan

| i personally don't like Walmart due to them coming into small towns and taking jobs away from mom and pop stores. also their corp. buildind in Arkansas only has windows on the top floor for the executives. it's like they don't want you to have contact with the outside world.

I think it's good they took those magazines and bowed to the pressure from the christian groups. I think the next step should be to install a church on Sundays, that way the employees and customers could go to church right in the store. Then they could go buy some shells for their guns and on the way out pick up a thong and teddy.......

| I think what you're all forgetting is that Wal-Mart has a sort of reputation as being a family store. All the mags you listed are basically soft porn. Who's not gonna be comfortable? Anybody with a kid. On any given day, how many people are running around that store with kids? Probably 90% of the customers. Maybe they're going a bit overboard, but I think it's respectable that they have an ethical code that they're willing to stand by so firmly.

I'll back Premier up on her comment about Michelle. JT09 & I met her out one night and she's a super nice person.
Also trust me when I say that picture doesn't do her justice.
Concerning the topic at hand I can see both sides of the coin here. Are Maxim & FHM "soft" porn? Not in my opinion but then I'm a 26yr old male so my judegement may be off. WalMart is a family oriented type store and lets face it that some of the covers on the 2 mags aren't exactly wholesome pics to some people. I definitely agree with the comment about the lowrider mags and I'll also throw in the muscle/workout type mags.
Just my $.02

Funny story about conservative Wal-Mart. I grew up in the middle of nowhere alabama and the only place to shop in the nearest town was Wal-mart well any way I went in one day to buy The Ministry cd with Jesus built my hotrod on it ( now these is when Wal-mart still sold explicit lyris cds with the warning). Well any way I couldn't find it, and someone told me they had just gotten it there the day before. Well I asked someone and they pointed it out to me in the relegious section, talk about a mix up. Could you imagine the Bible thumper that bought that for there little church dance. Oh yea baby. a ding a dang adang dong dingdong a dinag adang a do

so is walmart planning on pulling Cosmo from the shelves too? or how about romance novels that picture naked ripped dudes on the cover? how thorough do you think they'll be?
my guess is not very, since i feel that somehow it's got to do with some bored soccer mom leading the pack on her rant to rid the world of un-wholesome reading material.
