Face Plants... ouch

Well i'm a beginner going to intermediate. I can get up easily i can carve and stuff like that.... i can a pretty damn good progressive edge... good enough to get w2w. my problem is i cant land on my board, but i can land on my face. Today we packed up my xstar with 6 friends and my center ballast system so the wake was a monster. I go to hit the wake and i get some good air but as soon as i launch up i start drifting to a face plant. After 2 of those i jsut called it quits for the day because i was in some extreme pain... and im riding with a torn rotator cuff so any little bail will cause a shoulder dislocation.... as soon as i hit the wake and noticed i was leaning forward i just let go and held my shouder so tight so it wouldnt pop out of the socket. I get surgery at the end of this month and i cant wait!!!!. So yeah why do I keep drifting to a face plant. is it because my handle is above my hips?

Sounds to me like you are hunched over at the waist, looking down, and have your arms extended straight out at face level.

Yeah the handle def. has to be at ur wasit and u can't be hunched over!!!

Make sure to look at the horizon in the general direction you are going while in the air, it will help your body be more poised for a landing. If your looking down at the water, you'll probably head into it. Wink

When you hit the wake keep the handle in line with your board and also flaten of just befor you hit the wake because if you stop cutting, then the board with slip from under you.
