I generally wear glasses, and I use contact lenses for skiing/snowboarding/wakeboarding/sometimes-skateboarding, and the more I wear contacts the less I like them. They're annoying to put in, annoying to take out, etc. I just don't like sticking my fingers in my eyes. BUt I stumbled across WileyX prescription sunglasses/goggles the other day...

Has anyone tried wakeboarding in these? If so, how often do they get torn off your face when you bail?
I'm sure I can attach some foam to the strap to make them float, but if they're gonna come off all the time, then I'll stick with contacts.
If anyone has experience wakeboarding with these, I'd love to hear about it. |

| I've got a couple of buddies who have those. One of them quit wearing them because the foam around the inside of the lenses that presses up against the skin reacted badly with him. Every time he tried to wear them his eyes would swell up. The other guy who has them complained that he always has problems with them fogging up. |

I have a couple pairs of those running around the house somewhere...I've never worn them for wakeboarding, but I have worn them before for the ballistic protection they offer. I didn't like them compared to other Wiley-X models, so I haven't worn them too much. I've seen some people tear the foam part out of them and that seems to help with the fogging, but if you are using the elastic strap to keep them from falling off that might be uncomfortable...i don't know. They also come with regular earpieces so you don't have to wear the elastic strap. _________________ Whoever coined the term "Near Beer" was a very poor judge of distance... |

Are there (preferably prescriptionable) glasses or googgles that you would recommend for wakeboarding?
I think maybe I asked the wrong question. |

tip of the day: stay with the contacts
You'll get used to it to put them in and out
I've done faceplants with contacts and never lost one...
I've had glasses before, when wakeboarding i had to put it off (lost 1)
When snowboarding, they always misted up... _________________ * riding finless teaches you to get your edge down properly, when you do it with fins, you'll be able to cut like OJ Simpson

disclaimer: I don't wear contacts or glasses, so any advice is purely speculation...
Of all the Wiley-X's that I've worn and ordered, I've only seen two with straps that I would guess could hold up to a faceplant: the SG-1 which is the one you asked about, and the XL-1. I've never worn the XL-1's, but I have seen people wear them and they liked them more than the SG-1's. The XL-1 is available with prescription lenses http://www.wileyx.com/EcommSuite/PrescriptionPackageOptions.aspx?ItemCode=XLF
Wiley-X makes a pair of goggles (the Nerve Goggles) that look decent http://www.wileyx.com/EcommSuite/PrescriptionPackageOptions.aspx?ItemCode=R-8051RX
If I remember right, Oakley makes presecription lenses for some of their glasses, but I don't remember any of them coming with a strap that would keep them on. Bolle and ESS also make goggles that are available with prescription lenses.
Of course, all of the companies and models that I mentioned are all ballistic/tactical type things...I'm sure there's other stuff out there that's more fashionable like motocross or snowboarding goggles...but I know nothing about those so this is where I sign off...
hope it helps! |

I am on my third pair of Rec-Specs for this season. I would not reccomend them.
I would like to try the oakley's, but those are expensive. _________________ "Captain of Her Heart"
