Hi fellow forumusers,

My name is Sander and i am a 25 year old cameraman from The netherlands. I just started wakeboarding but i encountered a bit of a problem. (usually we say challenge instead of problem.. haha)

i have the challenge of not being a person with the eyesight of a hawk. In other words i wear glasses or contacts.
In the events of me wakeboarding i allready lost 4 contact lenses and manage to let one pair of glasses get to the bottom of the lake.

I would like to ask if there is a pair of sports sunglasses that i can use while wakeboarding with prescription lenses in it strong enough and still soft enough not to get me to the nearest hospital to let the glasses get surgically removed from my eyesockets in the event of me falling. (what probably will happen)

Thank you in advance

greetz Mr.Muller

Close your eyes! Seriously, I wear them (contacts), most of my 'crew' does and we dont lose them. Close your eyes nice and tight before impact. I doubt this was very helpful, but relative I guess.

I have contacts but I usually don't wear them when I ride. Is your eyesight so bad that you can't ride without glasses or contacts?

I ride with contacts and have not had any problem. There are prescription sport glasses on the market that are made for sports and are made using plastics instead of glass. They generally look similar to large sunglasses and have some sort of wrap around feature so you don't lose them. They are also virtually unbreakable, so you don't have to worry about the board breaking them. You will have to search using Google, because I haven't looked into them in a while. I thought about buying some for other watersports where waterspray is a problem, but I've been okay with my contacts lately.

i used to wear contacts but the salt water ripped them up and i got the pieces stuck in my eyes. be careful with sports glasses cause they might slam into your face if you fall forward.

just don't wear them, unless your eyes can't see a foot in front of you

I can't see 1 foot infront of me without my contacts or glasses. And since I hate my glasses being so thick, I always have my contacts in. even when wakeboarding/skiing/kneeboarding. I just wear a simple pair of goggles. Looks a liitle dorky, but it keeps my contacts from being lost and the rubber around them helps when I do fall.

I wear contacts and i have never lost a contact in the lake while wakeboarding/skiing/tubing/kneeboarding. And like Rhawn said, close your eyes, its no wonder why you lose your contacts when you hit the water looking like this Shocked

I wear contacts but don't use them on the lake, are your eyes that horrible that you can't go without them?

I just got contacts, my vision is like 20/70 in both eyes, this is pretty blury. I didnt have them for my past 4 years of riding and i was fine. Yea close your eyes. i went swimming with them in and jump'd off a diving board, closed my eyes, and they stayed in.

I wear glasses, but I don't bother to wear them when I'm 'boarding. My wife, in contrast, sometimes wears sunglasses when she's on the water, and hasn't lost a pair yet! She got a neon-colored latex (?) tube that goes from one earpiece to the other, and the glasses are plastic, so they float.

Do you have hard or soft contact lenses ? My girlfriend has soft contacts and she has never lost them before. She also cant see a foot in front of her without them.

Last season she also used these cheap 1-day contacts from the Etos or Kruidvat, so that it would not be a biggy if she lost them.

i can see things close to me, but my eyes are that bad to where everything is completely blurry in the distance. when ever i ride don't wear my glasses or contacts. when i snowboard, i don't wear them either which can be a challenge when it's snowing to the lip to a jump or box.

Here is what we do for a good friend of mine. im sure our method could be perfected but since it works perfect and because we are just poor college kids we took a shoelace and tied it to each side of his old pair of glasses. then we used the velcro strap from our wake rope and velcroed the the shoelace to his life jacket. that way he could see and if he fell hard enough to knock the glasses off they were still right with him.
