Has anyone ever built or seen a board rack that is not made to fit on a tower or pylon? I'd don't have either and own a 16' outboard with a useless ski locker and is lacking in the floor space department. If anyone has ideas or thoughts on board storage solutions for my situation, I'd appreciate you sharing them. Thanks in advance. _________________ But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions -- it is by grace you have been saved.

Burnt Orange,
For a while when it looked like we weren't going to be able to get a tower I had toyed with the idea of securing a rack on the side of the boat using some cleats and bolting some board rack fingers on so the board sits along the top/side at a 45 degree angle.
Its an option, if you have a closed bow you could put insulation foam on a small luggage rack off a roadster and use that.
Or a mount off the side of the windscreen?
Here's to us small boat owners! |

I had imagined the possibility of mounting something in the side rear like you mentioned. I don't think it would be that difficult to make something that's pretty secure, but I thought if someone had already done something then there's no need to reinvent to wheel. _________________ But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions -- it is by grace you have been saved.

| Looks like the wheel has yet to be invented in this case. |

take a pair of these
http://overtons.com/cgi-bin/overtons/order/large.cgi?19568 I found a pair of these on ebay for 90 bux plus shipping.
then go to lowe's or HD, whichever you prefer, buy some threaded galvenized pipe, 2 elbows, 2 nipples and 2 flange supports (it will be threaded in the middle with bolt holes. If galvinized is too heavy or you can't find the right size, go to metal conduit, I know for a fact they make up to 2" conduit or larger and use the same type configuration, except you use tension type connections(slips on and grips by screw, note you can drill out where the screw goes on teh conduit and it will hold better).
Basically you are making a rail on your gunnel or gunwale, wtever, and you will mount the racks to that and hang them at what ever angle you want. Ihave the image, I don't have CAD. sorry.
email me if you want and I can sketch something and shoot it back to you. Hell I can even look up the item numbers of what you need at Lowe's if you needed and give you a shopping list.
hope it helps,
The wheel is rolling.
Better yet if your in Kingwood, you can come down to Texas City and we can build it, if you really wanted I could weld it (got a new TOY, hehe) together and then you can bolt it on back home.
Even better still, you buy my moomba with a monster tower and 2 sets of racks already on it, LOL

txnx,
I think that would be a very nice looking fix for my problem. I'm rather impressed since all of the ideas that I came up with were pretty ghetto. I may look into this in the off season since all of my wakeboarding money is currently being used to fill my gas tank.
Thanks for the post. _________________ But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions -- it is by grace you have been saved.

Wow, I thought this post had died. Guess I should have checked back a few times cause what goerlich did is exactly what I want to do. Let me know if you have any problems with the mounts.
phiwi9966justwake, I only have the thin hand rail around the bow seats.
txnx, Thanks for the offer, but the little bit of free time that I have is spent on the lake. _________________ But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions -- it is by grace you have been saved.
