Well, since the other one is fried, do u think this is a good one??????? I want to get digital but what r the advantages???????? Anyway here it is, i can get it for $350.

JVC GR-DVA1U Key Features

High Quality Picture and Sound with DV Format: The DV Formats 4:1:1 digital component recording, supported by the 460,000-pixel CCD, delivers a high resolution picture with over 500 lines of horizontal resolution. Colors are breathtaking with approximately 3 times the bandwith of conventional video.
PCM Digital Audio: PCM Digital Stereo delivers superb sound that actually exceeds CD quality, with a choice of 2-channel (16-bit linear, 48kHz) and 4-channel (12-bit non-linear, 32kHz) recording.
Optical 16x Zoom with F1.6 Lens: 16x zoom maginification with full optical quality and F1.6 brightness lets you take great closeups. Zoom speed is variable by finger pressure.
High-Resolution Color Viewfinder: Uses high-density color LCD to deliver clear, natural looking images and make it easier to identify your subject in "busy" surroundings.
160x Super Digital Zoom with Spline Interpolation: Incredible 160x zoom magnification whenever you need extra zooming power. To ensure that the digitally zoomed pictures are smooth and clear, Spline Interpolation technology is used to smoot image contours and minimize jagged edges.
Picture Stabilizer: It recognizes the user's unique camera-shake characteristics to eliminate shaky pictures more effectively.
Digital effects during playback and R.A. Edit: The powerful array of digital effects and scene transitions will let you shoot incredibly creative footage. With the optional Multi-Brand Remote you'll be able to apply many of these effects during playback.

Special Effects: | Classic film | Strobe | Slow Shutter | Black & White | Cinema |
Scene Transitions: | White Fader | Black & White Fader | Slide Wipe | Scroll Wipe | Random | Black Fader | Mossaic Fader | Dissolve | Door Fader |
Built-in Auto Light: Automatically turns on or off depending on how bright the surrounding light is, so you can concentrate on your shot instead of lighting.
Snapshot mode and Motor Drive Mode: You can freeze a scene with the option of adding a white border or drop shadow to the shot. Single 4- or 9-frame multiscreen shots are available. Motor Drive mode lets you shoot serial snapshots in rapid succession.
Extended Recording Capability: You can easily extend your recording time by using the optional BN-V20 Nickel Metal-Hydride Battery Pack for 2 hours or VU-V856 High Capacity Battery Kit for 7 hours of consecutive shooting.
With Optional RM-V712 Multi-Brand Remote

What are the advantages of digital? It has higher quality and lets you upload the video to your comp for making movies.

i just wond up buying my same camera that i ahd just the newer model. i didn't get digiatl b/c the guy i talked to said that since we pretty uch trash camaera's anyway to not get an expensive camera and that spending more money on a digital camera isn't all. u have to buy more memory and ram (digital takes up more space) and since i already have extra batteries and stuff, i won't have to spend anymore money. the quality that i'm gettin is fine, so i just went with another analog.

Digital is better in general. Obviously, if you buy a cheap digital and an expensive analog, the analog will be better.

Refurbs are ones that were sold and were defective. They were then returned and repaired at the factory and are being sold again.

This is an email reply I got from Eric at Bump films after aking him about what kinda camera I should get for shooting videos....

Sup Matt,
Thanks for the email. Well, we shoot most of our movies, (well actually all
of them just not the instructionals), on 16mm film, not on video. $2,000
bucks is a decent budget but I gotta tell you, shooting on film is really
expensive so you don't want to even think about it. We shoot all our video
with a Sony PD-150 which shoots in DVCAM format, (a bit cleaner than regular
DV). This camera is going for about $2600 out of New York right now. Its a
really nice camera for sure. If you can't afford it, then the TRV-900 or
the newer TRV-950 from Sony are both good cameras.

Good Luck,
Eric Jeffcoat
Bump Films

In the helicopter bonus stuff from Boombox, Justin Stevens comments on how much film they use w/ those 16mm film cameras. The quality is AWESOME, but the film is crazy expensive and you only get a few minutes per roll. Its not consumer-level equipment by any means. DV cameras do give it that raw amateur footage look, but you can improve your shoots by using better lighting and tweaking the shutter speeds and effects and such.

If you are seriously filming for a video, get the rider to wait to start his pass when the boat is going towards the sun, that way the rider is getting hit by the sun insead of getting shadowed. Little things like that will make a huge difference for your end-result. Also if its real bright or getting dark, think about adjusting your shutter speed.
