$30K wakeboarding boat

I'm curious of others opinions. I have $30K to spend . What would you buy? Would you get a fully loaded newer direct drive or an older more bare bones v drive? Feel free to give me your opinions make/model.

I guess I should say I'm looking for wakeboard performance only (vs other water sports) and as much luxury/storage/dependability as I can get.

I sugggest to start talking to your local dealer now on a X-series you like and when next years models come in start the nagotiation. Thats what I did and got a phat hook up w/ a killer boat. No need to explain quality and proformance

My new centurion V-drive was only 30K, with tower ,3 ballast tanks, racks. nice kenwood stereo with cd changer.

You could get a Moomba LSV . They are a great boat and they even pulled the women in the Gravity games.

With your description, look into moomba. That brand will be your best bet for around 30k, good luck

I would check out a Centurion Hurricane or Mobius LSV. Centurion is way nicer all around IMO. I'm bias though cause I own one. You can pick up either for about the same price. Definately check out the Centurion if u can. It's awesome.

Check out flipsell.com. They have an '02 SAN for $38k that has been there for quite a while. You could probably offer the guy low $30s and get it for no more than $35. I would consider it, actually, I am considering it.

Go with a V-drive it is worth the money

If you look around you can find a 2000 maybe 2001 SAN for that. I know there are Wakesetters you can fins as well. Pretty much any of the "big three" earlier models you should be able to find for around your price range.

why spend that much on a used boat and not get any warrenty when you could get a new boat with the confort of warrenty. Its funny how a SAN thats two years old has droped about 8-10 grand when everyone says they have the best resale value when my 01' Mob V has only droped 2 or 3.

If you don't need much storage get a Malibu Sportster and load it up, custom ballast(will throw a wake as good as wakesetter becuase of similar hull), wedge. tower w/speakers, lights, and racks, killer stereo, perfect pass, anything and everything and it'll be under $30K.

It will give you a great wake and you will have it customized to every litle detail you want and if you wanna get really fancy you can get some custon graphics put on.

First off, it is not my intention to start a flame thread of SAN/all others...But, some things I can't resist...
George - anytime you buy something new you take a big hit the second you pull it off the lot. Whether it be a Super Air Nautique, Moomba, Mercedes, or Pinto (disclaimer: I did not just compare a Moomba to a Pinto). It is the premium you pay for it being new.

It is possible a Super Air is going to take a bigger dollar hit then a Moomba because there is a bigger price difference. i.e. If I buy a 100K Mercedes, it is going to be brought to 90K the second I pull it off the lot...10% or $10K. If I buy a Escalade, that same 10% is going to be $5K. Dollar wise, it looks like a Cadillac would hold its value better than a Mercedes (example only, don't hold me to percentages). Is this true, not in my opinion.

To further draw this out and two examples of how they (SAN) do hold there value very well...I bought a 1997 Air Nautique in July of 2001 for 27K. I sold that boat in July of 2002 after 150 hours for $27K.
I bought a 2000 SAN in July of 2002 for $35K. I am positive I could still sell my boat for $35K. In my experience, they definately hold there value vey well.

On a side note, if you bought a NEW boat in 01, I highly doubt it is worth only 2-3K less than when you bought it. If you bought a used boat, I would think that is believable.

htownbdr is right about the price drop. But i like knowing that if something goes wrong in the first five years, i can take my boat to the dealer and they'll fix it since its under warrenty. Its just a personal thing. some of the times you'll get lucky when you buy a used boat and hardly ever have it in the shop. Others, it migth have major problems....you never know.

I definately like the warranty thing. I always get the extended one too. I have a couple of close freinds that are very greatful for their warranty as well as myself. Never know what kind of lemon you're going to get. I know blah blah blah buy a nautique and u wont have to worry. Most of those people I know have had problems with their bu's mc's and nauty's as well. It's just the luck of the draw.

Although if you buy a 2-3 year old boat most of the kinks are worked out alreadyI would imagine. However the gelcoat cracks probably aren't and that's one of the main reasons for me as well as the tranny. That shiite is expensive to fix. Most bost manufactures allow one transfer for a fee so check into that. I just like having a new ride cause I know it hasn't been beat to crap. I'm anal about keeping my ride clean and take really good care of it. So for me its worth it.

I hear ya. I take very good care of my toys also and would love to get a new boat so I know it could stay showroom. My dilemma is get a 3-4 yr old Wakesetter (my dream boat) or a new (almost new) Moomba. I worry that the less durable interior/extras on the "budget boat" may cause me to regret not going with a slightly used "top notch" boat to begin with. I don't know from experience which is why I'm asking. What are your thoughts - all y'all?
