Hi all,
First, most of the time I feel cold in water and for now I dont really have any quality wakeboard specific clothing and I am looking to buy stuff.
next, I have a unusual skin problem from birth, my skin all over my body is really dry, I must apply hydrating lotion every day and my skin is really sensible to sun rays.
With that in mind, I cannot really stays in boat under sun rays without putting numerous coats for lotion for sun skin protection and dryness. All these just get wash off when I wake.
The option I have found to be able do wakeboard right now is to wear a long sleeve coton shirt, it protect my arms and shoulder from the sunrays and when I dont ride (take a rest in boat) it stays wet so it keep my skin from drying and feel uncofortable. (it also prevent unpleasant look from other people looking at my strange skin problem)
As for the shorts, I have a pair of Westbeach short that reach under the knee so my legs are pretty covered but I must ride "ball free" in them...not really comfortable for me.
What would you sugest?
I saw some small neoprene underwear I could wear under my short, that would generate heat and keep everything in places. I also saw on the hyperlite website some sort of long sleeve shirt made of neoprene too.
What do you think? |

Hey, welcome to the site. There have been a few threads on this recently. Try searching around for them.
But yes, I believe there are a few companies that make lightweight thin neoprene jackets. They're similar to wetsuits I guess. I don't use anything like that but anything from Jetpilot, BodyGlove, O'neill, etc will be of high quality. |

You but a empahsis on "thin", is that the main difference with a wetsuit?
Is these jackets more confortable than a wetsuit? |

| You might want to look into Under Armour clothing line. They have a huge assortment of shirts (short and long sleeved) as well as shorts. They have both baggy and compression (think spandex type). The material is typically pretty thin, so it shouldnt pull on your skin too bad. The only thing it may not do is help you warm up while in the water. |

I would say a tropical (2-3mm) full length wetsuit sounds about right for what you described. It will cover your whole body and keep you warm in the water. It will get hot if you keep it on in the boat though.
If a wetsuit isn't what you're looking for, I would take a look at rash guards. A lot of surfing companies make them (quicksilver, billabong, etc.) You can also get some generics for cheaper. Under Armour is essentially the same thing. I have one of those, and while it doesn't do anything for keeping me warm, it does keep the sun off. |
