Got my 3's dialed. What next? (UPDATED 9/14)

I finally got my HS FS 3's dialed. I can land them more often than not. Which spin should I try to work on next?

Here's what I have dialed:
HS FS 360
HS FS 180 (with grab)
TS FS 180 (with grab)
Switch HS FS 180 (with grab, biggest of all my 180's)
Switch TS FS 180 (not w2w, no grab)

Here's what I was considering to learn next:
HS FS 540
HS BS 180
Switch HS FS 360
TS FS 360

My toeside and switch riding are very strong.

ts fs 5, ts fs 3, and maybe start throwing in some inverts

i was wondering the same thing, no inverts? try for a backroll or tantrum, or if your TS is strong and your switch also as you say the scarecrow is pretty good

Yeah, I guess I should have specified. I can do backrolls and I am working on crows. I'm only concerned about spins on this thread.

Those are all good choises. I'd try them all, and go with what feels best. If I was to put one of them off for a while, it would be the 5. Get the basics down and work on all 8 180s. They are the building blocks of all the larger spins and having a solid foundation will help you progress faster in the long run.

ya Id learn a TS 3, grabbed HS 3, and HS BS 180 next. I wouldnt try a 5 until you can spin lots of handle pass stuff without thinking about form. (I tried 5s before I was really solid with my 3s and technique and I ended up losing the 3s)

I tried a few different things and I feel that the TS FS 3 was probably the easiest to learn. I've landed several now. I found them easier if I try to do the handle pass at the last possible second. I have also landed a few switch HS BS 1's. They are more similar to the TS FS 3 than you think. You pass from the same hand to the same hand and you land the exact same way. It also helps to make the handle pass late. I haven't tried grabbing my HS FS 3 yet but I feel like I could easily do it. I am very comfortable with the HS FS 3 now. Whenever I try a HS BS 1, I end up getting thrown off-axis a bit and I land on my butt. I think I am trying to spin too early. I guess I need to pop, get my bearings straight and then pass the handle.

One question: for those of you that can land TS 5's, do you do them any different than TS 3's (besides the obvious extra 180)???? IE, is the takeoff from the wake any different than the 3?? Craig and David, help me out here

jpminter, TS 5s are the same pretty much, just don't try to pass the handle late.(obviously) When you get the handle give it a pull across your body. Lead with your shoulders but turn your board the extra 180 too. They are pretty easy if you have a solid handle pass.

PS learn BS 1s and grabbed TS 3s landing blind. oh soo steezy and they feel really cool too.

" well..david said that while i was typing, but here's some actual advice: just like a ts 3, with a ts 5 you have to wait to gain your balance, more than you think you have to wait, because chances are you will get the rotation every time. we're honored that you thought of us for the question though haha. when you start working on hs 5's let me know because those are my favorite!! and i learned them long before ts 5's

Craig-R, well what would be your advice for the HS 5? I haven't really tried one yet but I usually don't land with my back hand on the handle. I always land with my lead arm extended. Should I just try to get my back hand on the handle before the landing and give it an extra pull for the 180 before the landing? Anything else I need to consider?

I need to make a dank video like you guys. Maybe I'll gather up some footage this week and put something together.

jpminter, HS 5s are really easy to spin off the double up. I was trying them off the wake and I hucked them so much Id get off axis and not in a good position to land. When I try them off the double up, I just basically throw a 3 but since you have so much time in the air, it just goes to 5 and everything is slower so you can think through it easier while doing it. Its true I havent landed any yet (I usually throw the handle because I think Ill underrotate then landing perfectly) but I think theyre much easier off the double up.

i never land hs 3's with both hands on the handle, i just started trying 5's by pulling hard once so i would rotate faster and passed the handle to my back hand for the final 180. it took a lot of tries and practice but it eventually worked out for me. i agree with LFADAM to a certain extent because i think that hs 5's are easier to complete the rotation off the doubleup, but not necessarily easier to land and ride away from. i started learning 5's just but messing around and seeing what would happen...that's how i learned the whirlybird too so just go out there and just have fun and try new things for the hell of it

updated again!

i have hs bs 1's dialed. i can even do them wrapped. they're not that cool looking but kind of fun to do anyway. i've been trying hs bs 3's. i get the right amount of rotation down but i always come down really tail heavy which makes the landing tough. the handle pass is no problem but does anyone have any tips on the landing?

well i used to pass the handle at the small of my back but i couldnt really get them consistent then one day something clicked and know i pass the handle behind my knees under my butt and it has made them a lot more consistent and i feel like i have a lot more control over my rotation
