|
|
Picked up a byerly 142 to replace my obrien custom 135 that i outgrew about 2 years ago. Picked it up off ebay for a nice price. Can't wait to get back out on the water
Since i got it, i've seen a couple people say that it's a slow board. Anyone have any experience with it? I researched it for a few weeks before getting it, and it seemed to fit my style pretty well. I never saw anything about it being slow until a couple weeks ago. Comments?
HL byerly 142. Didn't realize how stained my binding were until i put them on a new board
and my old obrien

It is a slow board, slower than anything I've ridden. This is because of the huuuuuuge flat spot on the bottom that just plows through the water. So, what you loose in speed, you can make up with pop. Its a really tight board too, even without the fins there are still 4 molded in fins plus 4 cut outs to help it track more. _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

I think i can sacrafice speed for pop, as I ride behind an '89 MC tri-star. Slalom/barefoot boat + no weigh = SMALL wake At least now that I've got a bigger board i won't have to ride at ~24mph, and drop it down to a more reasonable speed.
As for it being tight, my obrien came with 2.75" fins, which i eventually replaced with 2" ones. Now that board was tight! All i can say is I'm anxious to see get out on the water.

| mine was slow, but not slow enough to make a huge difference. you arent going to be launching out into the flats all the time, but it's good for w2w tricks with POP |

Well I've been meaning to update this since, well about april. Oh well.
Anyway, I've gotten a good bit of time in riding it, and I really like it alot. With the center fin, it's TIGHT. I took the center fins off after my first set, and haven't touched them since. Without them it still tracks great, and is very stable. My old board was twitchy as hell in chop, this one's infinitely better. Without the fins I can break it loose at will.
My only complaint is that it is significantly slower than my old board. Overall I'm happy with it. |

| Yeah, you shouldn't need fins with that board. I'm glad you like it. How much did you end up paying for it anyway? |

I want to say it was around $230 shipped. It's been a while though. |

wkbrdr127, Hey man i actually ride Rufioswashbuckle's 04 byerly and i like it a lot. It is a slow board but like they say it will kick you up there! Hope you like it man and keep us posted! I ride mine fin-less, i don't know how you ride but with the fins in that board is way tight and aggressive! Plus it sounds like you got a really good deal! _________________ "The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good."
