I have read all the threads I could find on how to do a scarecrow, but still am a bit confused.
Would anyone mind walking me through the trick? The walkthrough on the main site says look over your shoulder, but I'm not sure which shoulder to look over, etc.
Also, what hurts when you fall learning crows. I have screwed up my knee mildly on a Tantrum and am looking to learn something that won't put as much pressure on my front knee when I screw up.
Thanks for the help! |

The trick to the scarecrow is when to spin the 180. Most people that can't land the trick try to spin the 180 too quickly. There isn't a lot of twisting (spinning) in the trick, so don't worry about getting your body to the 180 position. Instead, think of doing a nice front roll. After you've initiated your front roll and are about halfway through the trick, let go with your front hand, and let the boat pull you around the final 180. To help complete the 180, you can pull the handle into what was your back hip right after you let go of the handle with your front hand. I don't necessarily advice looking over your shoulder for a simple scarecrow. There are many different styles of scarecrows. Some of them spin a little bit earlier, and those are the ones that you look over your shoulder. If you were to do that style of crow, then they are talking about looking over your front shoulder (which becomes your back shoulder at landing).
As a general rule, whenever someone says look over your shoulder, or look into a certain direction...they are talking about the direction you will be spinning in. The reason why is because your body follows your head and shoulders. If you turn your head and shoulders in one direction, your lower body will follow (unless you purposely try to fight it). |
