Hello, new here!
I have been snowboarding for years and can do lotsa tricks. Just started wakeboarding last summer and everyone says it should be easy for me since I'm a good snowboarder. So far I have seen very little similarities. I am getting frustrated because I can't switch and I can't seem to get much air at all. No prob on the snow.
So anyone else ride the slopes? How do you compare the 2? _________________ SheLoki

I've been snowboarding for quite a few years now myself, and just picking up wakeboarding this year.
I think the biggest difference you have to learn, is the way you lean on the board, and the obvious rope you are holding onto. Just takes some getting used to. |

I'm an avid snowboarder. Wake riding switch was not a problem - I simply got up switch instead of regular to get the feel of it, but doing a flat 180 took a few tries and several falls before switching between the two with ease. Keep your legs both bent at the knees and pretty equally balanced, primarily keeping the torso of your body back to help keep the nose of the board up, and make sure you keep the handle near your waist, arms bent and not straight or up high.
Also, I just picked up a Hyperlite Drive which has four fins and NO center fin which seems to give more the edging feel of the snowboard I'm used to and like better compared to other wakeboards I tried. |

I've been snowboarding for 2 years and wakeboarding for 1. Since I caught onto snowboarding really quickly I think that wakeboarding is easier because I feel so comfortable in the position and on the board. For me I just did the same thing wakeboarding that I had done snowboarding, I listened to other people's advice and then just did stuff as I felt more comfortable, andit worked for me.

I ski but the friend I wakeboard with was a pro snowboarder in the early 90's and mid 90's and she kills it on the wakeboard. Although you can tell she was a hardbooter as she is obsessed with the perfect carve in the water. Whereas I am all about trying to get air and do tricks.
She is trying to get me to pick up snowboarding this winter and said I should pick it up easily because of how I have picked up wakeboarding. So we will see this winter how well it carries over the other way!
I will have to hide on the mountain though when boarding as I was hired by my current job to ski on the mountain not board! _________________ "It must be the moonlight or the bottle of goldslagger that brings out the romance in a girl" - Out Cold |

So I spent last Sunday snowboarding behind the boat like it was a perfect pow-pow day. Let me tell you that this is not the best way to wakeboard. So far I have found a lot of differences between the two board sports.
Thanks to the helpful people on the boat telling me I was snowboarding instead of wakeboarding behind the boat, I was able to adjust my riding posture, with their assistance, from snowboarding to wakeboarding. HUGE difference. Much better edging, way better turns, and much more fun. Riding is much easier when you differentiate between the two instead of trying to make the snowboard style work with wakeboarding.
Another thing, if you are popping off the wake and land in a snowboard stance with your back knee bent slightly forward, it hurts. Keep symmetrical, think wake and not snow, and all will be well. |
