So I've had this discussion a ton of times with my pals. When a wakeboarder rotates which axis is a flip, which a roll?
I know that my fav new trick I can do is called a Mexican back roll even though really its a hs front roll. So you'd think that when a wakeboarder rotates like he's doing what you'd normally call a flip, where the axis is through the hips and chin goes to chest, its a roll. So a tantrum is a roll as is a mexican roll.
When a wakeboarder rotates in the direction you'd do a cartwheel, so the axis is your belly button and your ear goes into your shoulder, thats a flip.
I know it gets really weird because we already think in terms of snowboarding (rodeo), skiiers (barrel roll), skateboarding, and what you called things when you were 6 years old at the diving board. But people use both ways and I know only one is truly right. In other posts, people say I got a tantrum, now gonna try the backroll. But really theyre gonna try a flip right?
Anyway, just landed two mexican back rolls back to back for the first time and am psyched to ride again tonight. |

| There is no such thing as a hs front roll. It's hs backroll, hs front flip, tantrum, mexi roll. That covers all directions in which you can throw your body. Yes, it's weird, but these are the names. Better get used to it. |

Forget the naming conventions. I'm not sure who made them but they're messed up. I struggled with this for a while. You just have to memorize the tricks and the names, there is no standard.
hs backroll - cartwheel motion, or mexiroll which is a front flip motion
ts backroll - flip motion
hs front flip - cartwheel motion
ts frontroll - flip motion
tantrum - flip motion _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| tristanmx7, if you underrotated a mexiroll, you would land on your butt, not your face. |

its true. when you underotate a mexiroll it would be tough to land on your face unless you went only 1/4 the way.
instead, you land on your butt, your back, your thighs, you elbow yourself in the ribs. . . |
