| I broke my collar bone skiing at mammoth last week. My big question is when am i going to be able to wakeboard, wakesurf, etc but no doctor has given me any kind of straight answer. So here is what i'm thinking and what i need an opinion on. I'm getting an x-ray in 5 weeks to see if the bone has healed enough to wakeboard, however i'm pretty confident that i'd be able to wakesurf before then since its not exactly high risk...and that is what i need an opinion on. is there anybody who has dealt with this personally or knows anybody? i would love to hear any stories about that. |

Anything that you do that requires you to: pull, push or raise your arm over your head will put you at risk at this time. This being said with the understanding that is was a complete break.
No I've never had this type of injury, but understanding anatomy will give you an idea about I'm talking about. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

i have a friend that went through a similar injury; broke his collar bone. his doctor told him no physical activity for 6wks. he said, "ah screw it...i'll wake surf." that was early last season. he's still hurting to this day.
something to think about. _________________ my demo reel

| its not a full break but the bone does move. I can move my arm in a pretty good range of motion but my overweight cat sat on my arm and popped the bone out of place if that puts anything into perspective. My brilliant idea would involve not using that arm to surf ar all but its starting to sound like its not as good a plan maybe..boo to broken bones. |

I don't see how you cannot, not use your arm when doing any physical activity.
Sure it's great that you can move your arm actively against no resistance,
but step outside of the glasshouse and look at what will happen once you get into the water.
Your cat weighs alot less than the force your arm will exert against water, pulling yourself into the boat/deck........ Get the picture now?
But hey...it's your life and you know your body better than anyone, right? _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |

| My dad broke his collar bone and becaues he did not stop fully using his arm and not lift anything over 5 lbs he had to have surgey two weeks ago and they had to use a plate and screws to put it together. Now he has to have his arm in a sling for 6weeks and cannot move more than a tooth brush for that amount of time too. After that he has to have physical therapy for 12 weeks. Think about that before wakeboarding. |

| As tough as it is, fight the urge to get back in early and listen to your doctors. I know it sucks, but trust me... it sucks more to have nagging injuries for the rest of your life. Let it heal up, it's good you're okay though. |

As much as it sucks sitting around and waiting for the weeks to go by, I have several friends who have ignored the doctor's orders and they made their small temporary injuries into lifelong, painful ones. |
