|
|
As a result of what I have read on here about people getting their necks twisted or jerked and injured as a result of helmets, I'm doing some research on helmets and the potential injuries that wearing a helmet can cause.
If you have been hurt or know someone who has been hurt as a result of wearing a helmet, could you describe here what happened and how badly you were injured: whiplash, bone fracture, concussion, etc?
Some other things to mention: what made you fall and how you hit the water: caught edge and smacked head on water, took a dive from high up (bad raley/invert, etc). The more details you can provide the better.
I've also thrown a poll on here for good measure.
Thanks for your help! |

| i wear a helmet because i dont want to gash my forehead open again. Trust me wearing a helmet is safer than not wearing a helmet. Especially on sliders. |

| Personal more than anything, but if it turns out to be something thats not incredibly uncommon, I have some ideas I want to throw around for a kind of helmet that would be much safer and less prone to jerking peoples heads around when they hit the water. |

when riding sliders you should wear one, but for free riding I don't think it's
going to save you from a concussion, only going to help if you take hit on a slider
or if your hit by a baseball. |

I appreciate the input, but in this post I'm not asking about whether I should wear a helmet riding or not, or even when I should or what the benefits/disadvantages are.
I'm simply trying to get some info from people who have had bad experiences with helmets. |

I'll say yes, but it wasn't bad. The strap was a tad loose coming down and I had a little concussion from hitting the inside of the helmet. This was caused by a 360 that went terribly off axis after an early initiation and bad pass if that helps
The thing I liked about the helmet was the ear protection. After riding, I just find it hard on the neck _________________

| I've heard some bad things about people's heads getting tossed around because of the extra drag from the helmet. The only time I would wear one is on sliders. |

I've had injuries b/c of wakeboarding, not b/c I wear a helmet. If the helmet fits and is worn properly the benefits of wearing one outweigh the negatives 100:1. _________________ the2001.com |

| The medical research on helmets is overwhelming - try checking out JAMA or AOSSM. |

sn757 wakeboarder I guess I should have added that I wear a helmet when freeriding, and have never had any problem with any type of neck related injury. I do know that it has saved me many times from the severe headaches I get when I have a whiplash type fall. _________________

| Anyone tried those foam helmets that I see Kids wearing during Taekwando free fights? They have these little holes on the sides - are they for airing or shock absorbers? Those seems very lite and can lessen neck injury. |
