Hi everyone. Im looking for my first wakeboard/bindings. My wife is buying me one for my birthday (August), and we just got our boat this past February.
I am 5'7" and weigh 150lbs. Im an avid weight lifter so Im decently strong. We bought my dad some ski's for Father's Day, so I have been skiing. It took me 3 tries to get up on skis, and I have moved into trying to get up on one (but thats much more difficult!). So I have decent balance and strength. As far as I can tell, this board/bindings would work ok for me, but I am certainly open to suggestions. I didnt know if I should look for a longer board, or if this ones good. My wife may also be doing this some, she is 5', 110ish, so she is pretty small. Also, is this price good, or should I look for something cheaper.

| $289 shipped - seems like a good price for board and bindings, plus board looks cool (to me). Some of the cheaper ones look kinda dorky. |

I think that's a pretty good price, but you realize it's last year's model right? I just got the '06 Flame 141 (I'm 6'3", 230 lbs) with the new Torq Hinge bindings. I got mine from buywake.com too. The service was great and I had the board in my hands within 48 hours.
The BIGGEST difference between the '05 and the '06 is that the '06 has the new Hinge Tech bindings. These things are SWEEET!! Easy to get in and out of but rock solid and comfortable to boot. They are in very high demand too because about 6 other places had them on backorder. Buywake.com was the only one that had them in stock.
Here's the '06 Flame 134 with the Torq hinge bindings. $420.00 shipped from buywake.com
Either way, that '05 is still a pretty solid choice IMO if you want to conserve some cash. Good luck. |

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I realize its last years model. I tend to buy things a year or two old (or used if I can), just to save some money, especially since I havent even seen any wakeboards in person except for whats at Academy Sports or Boaters World. At this point, I just want something that I can learn to get up on, ride some, and start learning, and then in a couple seasons pick up a cooler board (and boat!!!).
Thanks again |

I understand completely. I just bought my first boat in May. I'd never been on a wakeboard before in my life, though I had waterskied a good bit when I was a kid.
I bought a $150.00 Hydroslide at the local Boater's World in June. It was fine for a complete novice but I outgrew it within a month. The CWB should last me for a LONG time.
I'd say that '05 Flame will do you just fine for at least a couple of seasons like you said. |

| If you have a West Marine near you they have them there, atleast the one by me does plus about 20 other boards. I was going to get the 06 model but ended up getting the 06 LF Omega combo for $406. Both are really nice boards |

Thanks for the input. Boaters World had a couple, the hydroslide was a good price, but it was 140-141 cm, which I thought was a touch long (just going off everything I have researched) since I dont weigh that much.
In fact, it was your "look what Fed Ex brought" thread which lead me to buywake.com - that board you bought was beautiful, so I started looking through the CWB package deals, and saw the '05 with bindings for a pretty decent price. So thanks for that inspiration!
On a side note, my wife and I went to Hilton Head on vacation two summers ago, and we loved it - we are looking forward to going back in a year or two. |

Well, I'm glad that my input was some help to you. Let me know whenever you come back to the island. One of my closest friends runs a parasail operation out of Palmetto Bay Marina ( www.myspace.com/palmettobayparasail ) and we are discussing branching out into a wakeboarding camp/charter operation next year. If you come for visit, look me up for a pull. Good luck with the new board.
