|

Hiya, I heard from some snowboarding friends that wakeboarding is really awesome, so I looked up what it is, and it's all about jumping over the waves that your boat makes right?
So my nephew has got this old 130bhp speed boat, that is equipped for waterskiing, but it doesn't have a tower or anything and it's also a pretty slick boat so I'm not sure if it creates alotta wake?
Do you guys think it could still be used to wakeboard? Or do you really need a wakeboarding boat?
Thanks,
peach |

if you are a beginner, you can pretty much use any type of boat that will get you up to wakeboard, but.....as you progress and want to start jumping big, the size of the wake will make a huge difference. _________________ you have the right to remain silent, so shut the hell up! |

when i first started out, i learned behind my dad's 19 foot i/o and my buddy's parent's jet boat. neither kicked up a whole lot of wake. jumping wasn't that great, but i learned the basics. i have a mobius ls now and the wake isn't bad when you fill up the ballast tanks. i can at least clear wake to wake jumps. but my boat doesn't compare to some of the v-drive boats out there. oh, don't even waste your time with wakeboarding behind a jet ski unless that is your only resort and you are desperate for a pull. not sure if i answered your question, but i hope it helped.
i'm attaching a pic to give you and idea of the wake size my boat kicks out. the rope length is 60 feet from the tower. _________________ you have the right to remain silent, so shut the hell up! |

cool, thanks for the info.
I'm not by any means qualified to judge it but the wake looks pretty good to me.
But I think the speedboat can make more wake when you up the speed some more. I read the normally waker go between 30 and 40 km/h but I think the speedboat can easily hit 70 or something, but that's probably a bad idea for a beginner. |

| Keep the speed between 18-22 mph, not sure what that converts to but you shouldn't go any faster than that, especially with a beginner in the water. |

i pull people at 18 or 19 mph when they just start out. i go at 22 mph - seems the wake is biggest for my boat at that speed. i'm not sure what the conversions to km are either - sorry _________________ you have the right to remain silent, so shut the hell up! |

mph times 1.6 is kmh.
So 20 mph is 32 kmh |

| rockinguitar876 wrote: | | that speed boat will work hey i was looking in to a mobius are they good boats there farely cheap on the website | i'm as happy as could be with my mobius ls. i'm far from advanced, so i don't need a monster wake. when you fill the ballasts and have a couple friends on board, the wake gets plenty big for me. plus i have other family and friends who like to ski, kneeboard, and tube where the wake should be smaller. i do have my boat optioned up pretty well - dual ballasts, hydraulic wake plate, perfect pass, tower speakers (sub woofer & amp) & bimini top. i got it all plus the trailer, sunbrella cover, and a 3 year warranty for a little over 32k (tax & title included). it is a 2005 model which i bought over this past winter - that's why i got such a good deal (last '05 left) i get tons of compliments everywhere i go.
my next boat will probably be the lsv model - by then, i'll be a little better plus not having the engine compartment dead smack in the middle is so much nicer.
if you have any more questions, don't hesitate. hope this helped. _________________ you have the right to remain silent, so shut the hell up! |

the first pic hopefully gives you a good idea of the wake with a '65 rope.
the second is the boat when i was dropping it in the water - sorry i don't have a better pic just yet. the third is a zoomed in photo of the wake size, same rope length. _________________ you have the right to remain silent, so shut the hell up! |

| hey man, there is no "can this boat work?" cuz and boat with an engine will do the job. I used a pontoon for 2 years, between that and our nautique an 11 foot fishing boat with a 15 horse engine on it (no joke) it took like a whole minute to get up but it worked. you can use jetskis too. |

I used to ski behind a 15hp all the time.
My family had a canoe, so I would sit on the front of it and tow along behind the 15hp. Once we got to max speed I would put my feet down and leave the canoe behind! |

Actually, the jetski wake isnt that bad for beginners and such, I learned a 360 behind mine last week because its all I have to go behind right now because of gas and all. |
