|

So I need some input. But let me give you some information before hand.
I Live in Central California, weather is always dry, Boat is not at a slip, I always pull boat out at end of day. Our boat is always garaged during winter. The boat will never see salt water. With all that said, I feel I should be able to use any stereo head on the market rather than paying for a Marine unit. However Stereo's delaers say I have to have Marine set up. Marine heads are limited in supply and styles. I am not a super thrown down stereo buff nor will I be. I have a clarion marine head now and although it works perfect I am tired of swapping CD's and my wife and daughters want the iPod connectivity so they can load a music book to plug and play. CD's are quickly becoming a pain in the butt.
Anybody using a standard stereo head unit?
Thanks in advance _________________ The more things change, the more they stay the same. It is the illusion of progress |

your stero dealer is a moron, non marine is fine. I would suggest the pioneer (non marine), as they have waterproff remtoe capability. That is the only good thing about marine units. _________________ LED Concepts |

also, you can get an ipod iTrip (radio transmitter), so you can just tune the boat to whatever frequency you designate..

Johny_WA, those things are too expensive. I picked up a little universal one you just plug into the headphone jack for $20 at Future Shop. Works just fine in the boat. _________________

acurtis_ttu, Agreed. I run a Pioneer with wired remotes without any issues.
On a side note MB Quart has a true Marine MP3/CD that looks very good, although I have no actual experience with it. Might be something to look into if you want to go marine. They are pretty cheap off eBay. _________________

We all have non marine cd/mp3 players and they are holding up just fine, I have a pioneer in my first boat and now I have a JVC, plus u get a remote and they cost less than the marine. _________________ Lets Ride!

Excellent,
Thanks. I figured as well. Just wanted to be sure I was not overlooking the obvious. _________________ The more things change, the more they stay the same. It is the illusion of progress |

new for this season, I upgraded mine to a panasonic with direct ipod control... though I'll warn you, see if you can try them out first... this deck, it takes control away from the ipod directly and blanks the screen - really sucks navigating the ipod through the deck... had I known, I would've found one that works more like my truck, where I can do front/back, foward/reverse, etc., but also use direct controls... FM transmitters suck if you have a moderatly decent stereo or better... can't compare in clarity.
as for marine/non marine - I ripped out my marine deck for this one... I don't know anyone who runs marine decks unless their in a salty, moist environment - not sure why I bothered the first time around... this one looks better, cost lest, doesn't feel as cheap, has the ipod control and a remote... I'm happy with it... |
