some people use dish soap others use shaving cream
Dish soap is bad for your bindings (arguably)
Shaving cream is bad for the environment (arguably) _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

I have a dawn bottle on my boat (suction bindings are terrible without lube), and I water it down so it is about 4-1 water to soap. But once the soap washes out of the bindings, they are a bitch to get out of again...so I just have to eat $HIT really hard to get out of my bindings...lol |

NO!! Go get a nice economy size bottle of Suave Conditioner, NOT SHAMPOO. That is the best stuff I have found. Its greasy enough to get your foot in and if you kick your legs about three times after you get in, it completely washes the remaining conditioner out of your bindings. And it doesn't suds up. _________________ Holly Bay All The Way! |

Go to Home depot and buy electraglide from the electrical department, it is used to pull wire through conduit. It is water soluble (sp?), and half the price for a quart. DONT GET THE YELLOW STUFF. Make sure it's the Clear Glide. _________________ 220, 221 whatever works. |

Whatever you decide to use, please make sure it's biodegradable. Like H20orSnowLetsGo said, "Using dish soap might give the fish diarrhea. |

After reading some posts on boot lube and thinking about the world and our place in it, I decided to do some research on biodegradable dishwashing soaps. Although there are articles/people that say biodegradable isn't biodegradable (because of how long it takes to break down), I decided to buy Seventh Generation dishwashing soap. I diluted it 3 parts water to 1 part soap and put it in a spray bottle. As a first time rider in brand new boots, I think it worked great and I feel better having used a product that is "green." Check out the website:
www.seventhgeneration.com
You can even download a coupon for $1.00 off. I bought it at a local health food store for $2.99 w/o the coupon. Maybe not as cheap as Dawn or shaving cream, but less than Moose Juice, etc. and a small investment in the planet.
P.S. Even though I sound like one, I'm not a tree hugger - not that that's a bad thing. |

I use the Seventh Generation Dishsoap and it works great.
I found it at my local grocery store but I am also in VT so people tend to be a bit more eco-friendly up here than other parts of the country.
And as motobill said I am also not a treehugger, but do like to go out and fish everyonce in a while so anything that won't hurt them makes me happy! _________________ "It must be the moonlight or the bottle of goldslagger that brings out the romance in a girl" - Out Cold |

| i would not reccommend using washign up liquids etc as they damage your bindings over time, stick to proper binding lube as its better for the envirorment and wont harm your bindings. |

I use Lava, but if you read you would have noticed he was looking for substitutes for expensive binding lube.
Back in my younger, more daring days, I would steal KY Warming Liquid from the grocery store I worked at. It worked very well, but if you actually pay for it, it is way more money than binding lube. |

| my hyperlite spin's are really nice. I just make sure they're wet before I put them on and don't have a problem. Can get them on while in the water (feet don't come out often except on really wicked crashes) and they fit great. Haven't needed lube, though I wonder... would Pam Cooking Spray work? |

i agree with the guy who mentioned suave conditioner. i think mine is the finese brand, but my experience is that any cheap conditioner works great. i don't know how environment friendly it is, but i'm not the type of guy who dwells on that. for about $1 a bottle that has lasted me over a month, you can't beat that. _________________ you have the right to remain silent, so shut the hell up! |
