Work on getting a nice progressive edge to build line tension because tension = pop. Use your board's curve to edge into the wake and right when you hit, straighten your knees.

It's all about technique.

Robert Harp, spectra lines should only make a huge difference when you're hitting 6-10 feet every time. You'll be able to do mostly anything on a low-stretch poly rope so you don't need to fork out the cash right away for one unless you're rocking a ski line! Razz

fil-it-up, I have posted at length in the following thread all about how to get that height you want:

http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=58012

Not being funny I just don't want to start typing all the same stuff again.

Good luck.

Rocket, awesome explanation! Believe it or not I never would have thought of thinking of the wake as a quarter pipe shape... just a little kicker Razz

fil-it-up,
I'm just messin' witcha. Keep having fun...that's all that matters.

But seriously, IMHO Rocket's postings on progressive edging and line loading and all that instructional stuff are the best of anyone that posts on this site.

Pop - Proper progressive edge, proper edging technique. Yes, bend your knees, but make sure your hips and belly are up forward. If theyre dragging behind, you wont get the pop youre looking for.

Spectra - I feel its pretty important. A stretchy line is gonna pull you forward in the air when the water isnt holding you back anymore. Unless the rope is dead center of gravity, its gonna pull you off balance.

one of the mistakes i was making when i first started was that i would get really far outside the wake and then just cut back as fast as i can. of course i was hocking speed, i would only get like two feet into the air. you need to let the boat pull you in a little then start leaning and then really cut. the key is to keep the tension on the rope, thats why you cant cut hard right away, it looses alot of tension in the rope. i hope this helps.

I've read this about progressive edge countless times. Every time, I go out and think, OK this time it's gonna work for me. The problem I have is keeping the board on edge up the wake. Whenever I've tried doing that, really weird things start happening. It seems to me like you have to get the board, or at least your hips, back underneath you at/before takeoff. Otherwise, you shoot up all out of control. Every video (Waketrix, Detention, Higher Ed) I've seen, it looks to me like they "flatten out" at the peak. So, is this everyone else's experience too? Or am I still lacking technique?

I get 5-6 feet of air consistently off of my boat Mobius LSV w/ 1500#. I rode behind a heavily loaded Nautique and was getting 6-7 feet pretty easily.
