Here is the skinny I have about a bugget surfacing around the 25k range. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a one someone that does not know what wakeboarding is and 10 being Pro, I would say I am a 5.
This needs to be something that I can grow with into a 7 or 8, but not something that needs to the best damn thing out there. What I am looking for is the Best Bang for the buck that will keep me in a good boat and good wake for a couple of years of fun.
I am leaning toward the Moomba Outback, which I can pull right off the lot new for what I am willing to spend. Which means I am not going to have the headache of dealing with problems that go along with a used boat. On the other hand getting a boat that is 2 or 3 years old might mean that I can pick up something that throws out a much better wake. I don't know very much about this and am really looking to get some good solid advice to build on. I really don't need "Air Nats rock", I think I can safely say we know they do but it does not help me make and informed decision.
If you guys could help me out a bit and give me the pros and cons on say supra, moomba(outback/mobius?), x-star, Nats, or anything else(I don't know everything that is out there) that you have experience with that you can give some constructive pros and cons I would really love to hear everyones views. I will also be happy to consolidate all the info and post it all back up for future reference.
Thanks guys I look forward to hearing from all of you.

This is my personal opinion, not to boat bash on anybody. I really like the way the Moomba handled rough water. When cruising at 30mph in whitecaps it felt very solid. Now I rode in my friends tige in the same situation, the tige seemed kinda sketchy, the tower was rattleing, and the windsheild was vibrating. The mobius is a really good boat for the buck! be sure you get the wakeplate on it, it cleans the wake tremendously. _________________ Im going muddin at waketoberfest 2004

I found myself in almost your exact same position just a few months ago. I had the additional problem of needing a good Ski boat since on any given day we do both. I went for the '03 Moomba Outback (non LS) with the tower and so far I love it! I looked at all of the Major mfgrs out there and found they all make good boats. What I like about the new Outback is that it has more room than other boats in its price range, Skiers Choice has a great rep for customer service and all of the major components are the same as those used in the higher end boats. We liked the built in cooler and better designed (IMO) rear compartment on the non LS. However I would like that front locker for an extra bag. Without additional weight the wake with the new hull is good for beginners and very good when you do add it. I dont think you can go wrong with any of the Major brands out there but for me the Moomba was a great fit. _________________ No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously. |

If you're looking for "bang for your buck" its gotta be Moomba. We bought our Mobius at the end of last season and just love it! We were able to get ours as a dealer demo, which saved alot of money and gives us full warranty from our purchase date.
Good luck with your decision. _________________ Riders Inc. |

Mangey,
Just be sure you drive/ride behind as many boats in your price range as you can. The '03 Outback seems like a boat that fits right into your situation, but if I were in your position, I would first check out a Supra Launch. Granted it may be 2 yrs old or so, but for a DD, the wake is sooo sweet and you may be able to get a little better resale value....good luck, should be a fun ride _________________ www.MidwestMilitia.net |

I've riden behind Moombas, Nautiques, and Mastercrafts and I think they all put out great wakes. If you're buying a boat and have a budget then Moomba is the way to go. Our friend has a 99 Mobius (old hull design) and it through a great wake. Granted its not as the Pro Air Naut but it is still really good.
I'm picking up a new Mobius LSV tomorrow. I liked my friends Mobius so much that I figured I'd buy one too. My budget wouldn't allow for a Master or Naut and I wanted a V-drive so I got the LSV. Moombas are great boats and have great wakes. I'd probably get the Outback if I where in your shoes. Good luck.
You may want to look at Centurions too, that kinda in that price range and I hear they are nice boats also. I can't think of any inboard boat company that doesn't make a nice boat, you pretty much just have to see what their wakes are like and fit one into your budget. Good luck. |

| Troy, How much did you end up paying for the 03 Outback with tower and TTL. I'm thinking of trading my boat for one. |

| Hey. I was in the exact same position as you this winter. The max I could spend is $25k. I looked for over 4 months and finally found a '01 Moomba Mobius with 64 hours for $21k!!! Great deals are out there. You just have to be patient. As for the outback, if you decided on it, get the LS. You would have to weight the heck out of a normal outback to get the wake you want. The LS is supposed to have the same hull as the Mobius. We run around 1400 lbs ballast and it throws up a pretty nice wake. Moomba is definitely the boat you need to lean towards. Great boats and excellent customer service. |

Yo Naw. My other friends live in the Lakes of the 4. They don't live on the lake though. That's a private lake for people with houses on it, right?
Ya my friend Pat lives at the Double Tree. If you drive by there you'll probably see him at night or on the weekends. He's been out at least twice this past couple weeks.
I used to go to Cedar every weekend when I was young. Kinda grew up at PineCrest Marina. My friend Brad Evers did grow up on the lake over by the Christian Confernce area. I'll be bringing my boat out to Cedar right after I get it. Since that's the closest lake to my house. I gotta put in the break in hours, so I figured I'd do it there. Not sure which day tho. I gotta put in a set of French doors in my house this sunday. If I get back from picking up the boat on Saturday early enough then i'll put it in Cedar on the way home.
We should hook up some time. |

Breezer,
Out the door about 30K with:
tower
racks
stereo
cover
bimini
padded clamshell engin cover
extended wnty.
320 HP TBI motor upgrade.
And of course all of the standard stuff, trailer etc. I wasn't going to spend the extra on the fuel injection but after thinking about how many carbs I've had to rebuild in the past I figured it was worth it. It's nice to see so many positive comments about Moomba The boat is solid as a rock in the chop and tracks better than I had hoped. _________________ No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously. |
