| Ok well i have been doing hs backrolls for about 1 month or 2 now and i land abut 3 out of 5. my problem is, as spectators say, i go very low only 2 or 3 feet off the ground. Any tips to help me get higher on the Hs roll? |

You wakeboard on the ground and not water!!!
Be sure to wait to the top of the wake. Wait longer than you think you should, and it should pop you up higher. _________________ www.munsonski.com

but dont wait too long... tried to throw a huge backroll today, waited way to long and spectators said it looked like an s bend where i landed on my face about 4 feet outside the wake... (ended up with a bloody nose ) _________________ finally got my boat!!!

I popped, and put my chin to my lead shoulder, but not too much happened! I started rotating but only about 30 degrees max, so i was able to land normally again. What else should i do to start my rotation?? thanks |
you cant just simply put your chin and expect to throw it, that is just to set the rotation, you have to let your hips go as well... _________________ finally got my boat!!!

well dont overanalyze it man, the chin movement is the same as the hips, you want your whole body to do the roll, and the chin just sets the rotation, your hips just kind of go along with it, its hard to explain, check out the trick tips section on the main page.. _________________ finally got my boat!!!

Well, I can do it only with the movement of my hips. Ok, it's then more a mexiroll...your hip has to go up in the air as you would want to do a cartweel (but backwards).
Try also to cut a bit away from the boat and keep the handle in tight. The boat will pull you trough the rotation, no worry....but worry about the handle in the moment you feel the pull of the boat and remember: no rope, no hope.

| so when you guys started doing backrolls how long did it take to get the hang of it. Especially the guy who started the post and says he does them but they are low to the water, I have a feeling thats how my first attempts are going to be. I want to attempt some for the first time in the next few weeks, I just have this image of me skipping across the water on my head....... |

| sandman, most people's first attempts usually involved a head first landing of some sort. |

My first attempt I rotated 100% and landed on my board/butt. That happened for about the next 15 tries. I kept doing this because I was taking a really hard and long cut into the wake and not getting the pop I needed. I slowed my cut and they are much easier now. 1st time do this: barely think about the trick, just get air, then cut hard at the top of the wake and just let your board come up and out. Then you can work on handle position. _________________ "I know violence isn't the answer, I got it wrong on purpose." |

I agree with 5280HighButter.
And: The first attempts usually don't hurt because you will normally land on your but, but...
Taking too much speed will caus the handle to be pulled out of your hands (lateral speed is too high in comparison with the 90° Speed of the boat)
Coming in too slow togehter with doing the trick too early will probably cause the nose of your board to be catched in the second wake (because you won't be high enough)...and that really hurts, you can trust me
The key of not falling onto your but is to keep that handle in tight!

| I have got my Tantrums about 1 out of 2 so I have been trying back rolls. First time (2 weeks ago) I did the full rotation, felt out of control, dropped the handle and ended up landing perfectly some how. Tried today and landed kind of on my stomach. I held the handle this time. The crash didn't hurt too bad and if it hadn't have been 10:10pm, I'd tried again but we were out of light. I don't know what I did wrong and the guys I wakeboard with can't jump a wake yet so they don't really know what I'm doing. Anyways, don't worry about the fall, it won't be that bad. |
