handle pass vs. wake size

I seem to have an interesting problem.

I sometimes ride behind an i/o with no ballast, which had a pretty tiny wake,,,probably ankle high. I can do just about every 180 and 360 variation I can think of with out any problems, and the handle passes were easy as pie....not an issue at all.

However, whenever I try these same tricks behind a bigger, more wakeboard friendly boats, I can never seem to get the handle pass down. I always drop it, or miss the pass, or foreget to pass, or something.

I would think that it would be easier to do behind the bigger wake since I get more pop, but that isn't the case?

Has anyone ever had this problem or have any suggestions on how to correct it?

PS. I apologize if this has been posted before, but I didn't find anything in the search.

Depending on how you fall when doing it on a larger wake, it could just be the amount of height you're getting. I can rarely land switch behind our boat, but I can throw lots behind my buddy's boat.

behind the larger wake ur probably focusing more on clearing the wake than throwing the trick...i could do 3's no prob behind my buddys boat last year..n this year he upgraded boats n the new wake is massive...i'm always focusing 2 much on clearing the wake n not enough on the pass n end up popping the handle when i land.
Just focus on the trick...visualize it before u cut out to try it n remember the pop pull pass.

Same problem for me. Think that it is because i have to take more edge and load more the line to clear wakes behind a wakeboard boat.
backroll is however much more easy

If your getting pulled off axis when behind the big wake your most likely spinning too early. If you watch wakeboard videos every one of the riders get to the peak or almost to the peak of thier jump before spinning, and the first spin is always the slowest with the last spin being the fastest. If your haveing trouble with handle passes you can try different things that will help you out
1.get a rope on a tramp and see if you can get a 720
2. get a rope and handle and tie it to a milk bottle filled with sand or water and spin it around you and then once you get that down try spinning in the opposite direction of the way your swinging it around to increase the speed.
3. Do a one wake 3 before you try to go bigger

You just need to clean up the mechanics of the trick....
You are dealing with more force all around so the POP, PULL, PASS process needs to be more precise.

Big wakes can make some things easier but you also get beat up more if you make a mistake. Got to take the good with the bad.

It will come.

hyperlitesonofabitch, it was like a 14 foot i/0 ... very tiny wake, but I take pulls where I can get em.. Laughing

WattsBarRiDr, I can do all of those things fine and my rotations are all on axis and I always land the trick perfectly, just the handle is always about an inch out of reach then I go for the pass.

I have been thinking about it alot, and I think the problem is that there is more line tension in the rope then I hit the bigger wakes. I imagine if I just used more muscle and a little less finesse then i should be able to get the pass fine.
