Yes you need to wait longer so you will pop off the wake. I can relate, I do the same thing half the time.
You initiated the backflip as soon as you hit the wake so you didn't have any vertical pop. Even on a tantrum, you still want to ride up the wake and release off the top. If you watch riders that take them real big, they don't collapse their edge until they have left the top of the wake. POP FIRST, then initiate the backflip.
You may want to be a little more agressive on your approach too, take it wider and come in a little hotter. It should help give you stronger pop off the wake. |

| ok, look at you when you FIRST leave the wake. you never popped, dude. ur still "sitting in a chair", producing zero pop. pop, throw ur hips to your head, bend ur knees, and tilt your head back. enjoy the ride. |
