| ok, I've seen pros and amateurs do ollies and get 30 inches easy... but no matter how hard i pop or how much i load, i only get like 6....I'm riding a POS Hyperlite board, and I'm 5'11" and weigh 160-165 pounds. I ride behind a 2000 Super Air Nautique at 19mph... is that too slow? |

I hear at higher speeds, the water is "harder," and it lets you pop much higher. _________________ People should not be afraid of their governments.

| One thing that helped me is I was always kinda crouching down on my ollies and it was killing my pop out of the water. Keep a tall position, much like when jumping the wake, and it will help to push you up and out of the water alot easier. Once I started maintaining a good body position I at least doubled or tripled my height on my ollies. I was having to push so hard it was completely throwing my balance off and I would usually wipe out, but now I'm getting alot more height and keeping a good position so things are much easier. Just try to stay tall, then push down with that back leg. You doing them in the flats or behind the boat? I usually cut out HS and build speed, flatten the board off just a second, and then pop the ollie. Maybe that will help you. |

I have only been wakeboarding a month, and I tried to ollie without success. I was an avid skateboarder as a kid, but I'm wondering how different the technique is on the water. Can somebody describe how to ollie on a wakeboard? I'm assuming that I want to flatten the board, push down with the rear foot as I simultaneously lift the front foot. Then, once the the front half of the board is airborne, I should pull up the rear foot. Is this correct or do I have something wrong? How far should I bend my knees to start? _________________ 1998 Moomba Kanga w/ 6' Skylon pylon

No, ollieing in wakeboarding is different from skateboarding. You want to initiate it by putting the majority of your weight on your back foot, and then pushing down (or re-adjusting your weight) to your front foot. It will sink into the water, and then the buoyancy of the board will push the board back up. The farther into the water you go, the more it pops back up, and the higher you can go. You also have to bring your back leg up if you want to level it off to gain more height. Like said above, try to stand tall like when you hit the wake for a jump.
Sorry if my description was bad, but I found it fairly hard to describe. |

| I find pre-loading the front foot just a little before you slam the back foot down gives you extra pop on the ollies. |
