Why can't I just fully commit to doing some tricks and pushing myself? What are some good ways to pass that mental block to push yourself to trying new tricks. I'd like to be able to throw 3's and tantrums more often but I just can't get myself to do it.. I'll chicken out at the last second and just straight air it or cut away.

How can you beat that mental block, or what are good ways to progress?

so if you gonna bust your head a couple times wear a helmet, ive busted my head waaaaay to many times and had to many head injuries from stupid stuff, but thats the only way you learn to do new things right? about shorting the rope, i went from a 75ft rope to a 50 ft rope and my jump went up about half a foot so you could try doing that. just one thing to remember pain only last for a little bit so dont be afraid of hurting yourself

Ahh It's not pain I'm worried about, I just don't want to get another injury and go to the waiting room and wait there for 6 hours again Razz Sounds weird I know.... I'm also thinking of springing for a helmet tho Very Happy

BeachBum08, There are wake helmets out there. They look like snowboard or skateboard helmets but they're lightweight and waterproof.

don't get a helmet, bro. i know a guy that competed with me and he BROKE HIS NECK cuz he wore a helmet. he landed a scarecrow bad and the water rushed up the helmet and SNAPPED HIS NECK. ONLY, AND I MEAN ONLY, wear a helmet if ur riding sliders. he was semi- pro and now he's paralyzed.

good one. well when u know a guy who's ruined his life from one, u'll change ur mind. stop eating soap chips and open ur Bubb Rubbing eyes. he broke his GOD DAMN NECK. And I said only when riding sliders, not never wear one. this means to only wear one when u need it. if ur backing out of the driveway, ur not going to put ur seatbelt on. but when ur going cross country, it MIGHT just be a good idea. you are such a dumby wumby. great example.

Eh, just sack up and do it. Injuries hurt, but regretting not doing something at the end of the day hurts me more than a sore neck or headache.

hyperlitesonofabitch, if you're going to get all pissy, no one wants u on these forums. just try to get along instead of trying to start pointless namecalling matches mmmk? we're supposed to be helping eachother here, not telling eachother how stupid everyone is. that's what non-wake is for. Very Happy kidding, of course. but seriously, don't go off on people like that.

when i have fallen on my head trying inverts i have never got hurt except just being sore but if you wanna put on a helmet just for confidence do it but it seems like a helmet would just make more surface area for your head making it so you would break your neck

look man today i went out sayin i was goin to throw a 3 and in my first two runs I pussied out when I got back on the boat i was pissed cause if I dont try anything then its gonna take a while to get good. I put on a good song, went back out and got mad and i just threw it, I bailed hella hard my head still hurts but I was happy that I did it. basically my advice is if you can get yourself pissed off about something you will bust it

jake the great, ooooh harsh...

wakejumper17, Hah just set it up today and holy stuff that thing is fun. I got an even better idea to duct tape my old ipaths to it Very Happy Then I needed a rope and since I couldn't use the wake rope, I used a looong yellow one, tied it to a tree and made a slip knot with a piece of 1" PVC pipe and that was the handle hahah... It works awesome now Very Happy Now just to put it to water....

dont you know that most accidents occur within 5 miles of home?

look. a helmet is never a BAD idea. sure it could possibly make things worse in an extreme case, but so can an airbag, or seatbelt. it will save many, and some will be the exeption. remember, theres an exeption to every rule.

just remember while strapping in and getting pumped up, that if you dont try anything new out there, your only holding yourself back. my first ride of the year, i half assed a 3 attempt, and ate it. im glad i threw it though, cause had i not, all that off season day dreaming, and trampboarding and such would have been for nothing. and it helps the sting when you pop your head out of the water and hear everyone on the boat cheering and whooping. knowing you entertained everyone for a few seconds always feels good. Wink

As of this week I am re-instituting the "1 new trick" rule.
Every set you must try 1 trick that you have never done or have never landed before you are allowed back in the boat.

You should try that Qnev. Every time you are out on the water, try something new. Maybe start off with some grab variations you have never done before, or 180 grabs that you have never done. Land a couple of new ones, and you may start feeling strong enough to try a big trick!

The Tantrum was my first invert, and every time I went out I had to sack up for the first attempt, but after I got that out of the way I could try 5 in a row without a second thought.
I made a tantrum attempt method to get me started. I would go out and do a ts indy, hs slob 180, and a half cab indy. If I linked those 3 tricks together cleanly, I was obligated to try a tantrum.

Your hitting water, the worst you can do other than like tearing a knee is get water in your eyes, just commit and pull the trigger man. And don't think so hard, that's probably the biggest problem, sing a song, imagine a hot woman is watching. I do better when good people are in the boat watching, makes me wanna do a badass set, just mellow out and throw it.
