I installed some auto fog lights on my tower.
Lights work for about 5 sec and then blow fuse
When the amp is on powering tower speakers I am getting feedback
Disconnect lights at the – and + source and feedback disappears.

I am not an electrical engineer but assumption is that I have a short somewhere.
So looking closer at the lights – when I put my ohm meter between the white and black leads on the light I have full continuity. I thought a light bulb should have no continuity between the + and -. So firstly, I don’t understand how these (halogen?) light bulbs work. It seems like the + and – are wired directly together. My tower is not grounded anywhere – would there be any reason to ground the tower?

I don’t know how I can isolate a short if there is complete continuity on both sides of the light leads – am I missing something here?

you need a relay. go to the auto store; one relay for two-three 55watt lights.

The lights came with a wiring kit. I would have thought that the kit would include everything I need?

So what does the relay do?

thanks

I'm guessin you bought some cheaper lights. you woud think they woudl come with it, but I've seen wal-mart type kits that don'e. A relay looks liek a littel black box most common is the bosch style 30amp relay. It allows a low amperage switched power supply to turn on a high amperage load (lights) . they cost $2

Check out our light bar manual at http://www.monstertower.com/support.html

We recently updated it with various wiring configurations using relays and it should help you wire up the relay.
