So I have been ripping on the closed toe thing for a long time. I have ridden the new Zeus and grabbed a pair of the 3DS from the local rep to give them a shot this weekend. Well I must say that I was dead damn right. These things are crap. They do not fit well across the whole foot, have a lot of pressure points and loose spots, and basically feel like snowboarding in a pair of old Sorel boots. Glad I ordered the Zeus.

billm, Maybe you didn't read the post. I was talking about the 3DS NOT the Shanes. And I am Entitled to my opinion, thanks.

Call me an I-cubed, but for my feet and my riding....the 3DS rock.

Ask 3 people, you'll get 3 different reviews.

Jro i did read it and it staes in the first sentence that you were down on the whole closed toe thing which would include the shanes ! you go back and reread your post Cool Laughing

NAW, Nice. I think if they would have done a full boot length lace, they would be much better. But I'm not buying the closed toe, more response, marketing lie.

Not saying the boot is for everyone, but I think you may have had a sizing issue.

billm, You are partially correct. My disdain for the closed toe had little to do with the fit but the marketing of it as being better than an open toe. The 3DS disdain is for fit. It is definitely aimed at the wider foot. However, I rarely don't fit in a boot well as I have been told I have a perfect foot, at least that's what Cole Haan told me at our last shindig. Laughing

I had the shanes on yesterday at a local shop and fell inlove with how they felt, i tried the 3DS and Murray on right after and it didnt even come remotly close in comfort and fit.

But to each their own feet

J-Ro, did you ride a brand new pair or did you ride a pair that has been ridden four or five times? the difference in the broken in binding vs the new binding is night and day. i guarantee that if you put your foot into my pair, it would feel like you are putting your foot into a wet va....whoops ill hold that back.

kyle, I rode them about 9 times this weekend. You're right in that they open up a lot. That was my problem, they were too loose in spots right out of the box but perfect in others.

J-Ro, i think you might have been riding a size too big then. Most people ride them a size smaller than normal. Mine right out of the box were pretty much the tightest pair of bindings i have ever worn but they turned into my favorite binding of all time. I ride mediums and have a size ten and i have the smallest feet in my crew and we all ride my 3DS's

I'll grab another size smaller then and reserve judgement until then. Thanks Kyle.

What are the stiffest open toed bindings? I need some damn good ankle support and I thought my new Transits would do the trick but are what I hurt my ankle in. Anything super stiff and durable for me.

gene3x, liquid force have the worst ankle support out of any company. if you are looking for a stiff open toed binding, i would check out CWB's selection, their top of the line bindings have the best ankle support out their, the damn binding almost comes up to your knee, haha. Check out the CWB Zeus for the best ankle support, but definately NOT LIQUID FORCE

kyle, Yeah, they're super comfy but stiff. I need the hinge thingy because when I get out of most bindings it puts a lot of stress on my repaired knee.

kyle, Thanks. Does the hinge tend to break? Are they as durable? I am extremely hard on bindings. And have ripped several off of boards and torn many many overlays.

dont mean to hijack a thread but as long as we are asking for specific binding advice, what are some pretty flexible bindings (preferably cwb or hyperlite). i like to tweak the stuff out of my grabs (or at least i try to), i like the idea behind the hinge but it seems like it may keep you too locked in to really bone out your stalefishes.

They are Liquid Force but I used to ride the Sphinx and they are super comfy and flexible.

Thanks Bill...... So the Fuse, Murry's, & Zues Which is the stiffest of the three? Or just a better overall binding of the three?

I ride the 06 Murray's and love them. I don't find any difference with it being open or closed toe, but i find the boot to be incredibly comfortable! Once again, my own personal opinion though.

Do the Murray's run Large? I am right in between a L & XL and always seem to stretch out my LF XL's where I cannot tighten them anymore. I like to ride with them tight but the Large seem to be a little to tight. Will they stretch out any?

The Headless Chicken, go with the Parks. Very supportive but very very tweakable too. I ride RG-1s now and let my friends use my old Parks. In every respect, except flexibility, I love my RG-1s over my Parks. But I've heard the new Parks are improved in a lot of ways. If so and it still has the same flex, I may have to go back someday.

Headless... Check out the Faction. From what I hear it was designed to give ankle bend but with that, there is no boot out there that holds your heel down better than a hinge boot. I guess they'll be out in a couple weeks.

Does anyone ride the Nice PRS1 Binding? Is this one fairly stiff with good ankle support? It looks like it would.

I tried the 3ds bindings (size 10, tried mediums) got in just fine, and it felt really nice, tightened the laces down, and I couldn't tell if my heel would lift or not. I tried on a pair of shanes too, and it felt like my heel would definitely lift in those. The only boots I tried on where it didn't feel like my heel would lift at all were the Zeus'. I tried the Zeus', Deuce, Fuse, and 3ds.

I have the 04 PRS1's and a buddy has the 05's. They have some stiffeners which slide in the back, with them in they are pretty stiff, with them out they are just right for me. Great bindings, lube free before most other manfs.

Wakemaster_17, oh man i love my 06 transits. they're seriously like pillows for your feet. before i rode them i had a pair of 05 parks bindings, and i thought those were quite nice until i rode these. the only thing i found about liquid bindings is that they are really tight. i was riding my parks' small, and they fit me fine, and when i switched to transits i got them in medium and my feet hurt a bit after my sets because they're a bit too tight side to side.
