I notice that Charley Patterson rides with knee braces on both legs, and I'm beginning to think this is a good, proactive measure in order to minimize knee problems, or avoid them all together.

Does anybody know of any wakeboard specific knee braces? If not, I would appreciate recommendations for who makes decent knee braces that can be used for wakeboarding. Thanks!

I second the Cti braces. I am getting the Cti2 brace for my knee. I tore my ACL, MCL, and cartilage last August. They are expensive but insurance is paying for mine. The rep in my area is really good also. Mine is on order right now. A lot of pros wear this brace also. you can check them out at www.isports.com.

Thanks. I checked out the website. Expensive, but heck, if you can play in this sport what's another $800-$2,000 in expenses when a decent wakeboard boat itself costs at least $30,000!

I had ACL surgery on both knees and have been wearing knee braces on both legs while wakeboarding ever since. The problem I had when I first got the braces was when they got wet the straps used to keep them tight would stretch and the binding would get loose after a few falls. Aslo the velcro wears out.

I decided to modify my braces to correct those problems. I used ratchet straps like those on snowbaord bindings to replace the 2 critical straps on the braces. I left the other 2 straps as they are because with the ratchet straps tightened down the other straps don't do much.

Now I can put on my brace and tighten it down and it doesn't move. I don't even notice it any more when I am wearing it.

Here are some pics.

Later,

Who made your braces or where did you buy them? How much did they cost? Another question: do you think you would have torn your ACLs had you been wearing knee braces? Thanks a million for the insights.

The braces are made by BREG. They cost about $500.00. I modified them myself with the ratchet straps.

This brace is light, comfortable, and moves the way your knee does. Expensive though...my poor insurance company...

It's the nicest brace I've seen. Also, I haven't had any problem with the straps like jjakober had with his.
