I'm thinking bout uprgrading to an inboard. I currently have a Sea Ray 180 and it gets pretty beat up in choppy water. I can't imagine it could be any worse.
Would a bigger inboard (21'-22') be as bad or worse than an 18' I/O??

| I find that hard to believe because whenever I'm on the lake, I have to slow down everytime I see a wake coming while I see inboards and other larger I/O flying by me. Maybe "the grass is greener on the other side". |

You would be going from a v bottom boat to a flat bottom boat.....(Although they are not truly flat)
WORSE! almost guaranteed. _________________ PEACE

| Get a Centurion Avalanche, my brother has a 19 ft 4 Winns, my avalanche handles rough water much better. Centurion has a deeper v than anyother inboard. |

| I find our 05 VLX (21'6") is twice as smooth in chop vs our old 20 ft four winns I/O. Only thing that really rattles it is a big set of rollers when unweigthed. (Weighted you go through them) Normal chop doesnt do anything |

I want to believe that because it makes sense, but judging from the posts above and my experience(I/O only) and observations, it sounds like it really depends on the boats. |

| Ian - a jet boat doesn't qualify as a tournament quality inboard - it is a jet drive i/o. |

tulegit, I think you will be happy with an inboard. V-Drives kick butt for wakeboarding, but there are some very respectable D-Drives out there also. The Supra Launch comes to mind. Puts out a good wake without the price of a V-Drive ( unless you are looking at Moombas ). Take your time and do the research, because there are a lot of choices. _________________

Supras have drop keel hulls which pretty much takes the cake for deepest v, even moreso than my uncle's 04 avalanche. They unnoticeably cut thru rollers and chop, even its own rollers (for double ups) which get pretty large considering the water displacement from such a deep v hull can get kinda scary (24ssv was the biggest wake i've EVER hit) period. _________________ Mark Kenney, 1983-2002

| My Sanger V215 rides beautifully through chop compared to our old 19" I/O. But maybe thats because of the extra two feet. I haven't been on any other V-drive, but IMO it makes sense that most V-drive wake board boats will handle chop better than a smaller I/O. Think about it- build quality of the V-drive comapred to the I/O, most V-drives for wakeboarding are a lot bigger than run-a-bout I/Os, and hull design for wakeboats is advancing to accomodate different conditions. |

Comparing v-drive I/O's in chop to a inboard/v-drive is like comparing a Cadillac on a rough road to a Jeep. Yeah...the Jeep will get through the rough stuff without creaking, but in the Caddy you never realize just how rough it really is. I have ridden many ski boats, and many I/O's, and the only ski boat that even came close to a deep V I/O was a Centurion Enzo. _________________ http://kmags.mybrute.com/

Maybe my sea ray is not a deep V I/O because it's really bad. If an inboard is worse than my sea ray than it's totally not worth the extra money, even if it creates a bigger wake. |

If wakeboarding is the watersport of choice for you, then an inboard
is the way to go. Rough water conditions are going to happen. It's everyone's
opinion as to what they consider rough. If it gets so rough that I'm not enjoying the boat ride, I just stop for a while and take in some sun. _________________

Dude if you wakeboarding your going to be in minimal chop and at 30 mph I think the Supra 24 SSV takes the white caps great so what if its a little worse its all worth it! Also the 24 SSV handles its own rollers great _________________ Supra owners join the group!

Ian_82, good idea, except the wakes are way to big on those, even for pros _________________ 06' watson 138
